Backup Camera always on

1 Attachment(s)
I installed these Helix sequential taillights and 3rd brake light with hyperflash yesterday. They look great and work well.

Now my backup camera is always on. Don't think these are related, but going to recheck the wiring today to make sure i didn't pinch a wire or something. Anyone have this issue or install these taillights and have some issues? Also anyone have any information on what triggers the back up camera, such as when put into reverse the BCM grounds the camera, schematic, anything along those lines is helpful!

Car is 18 1SS with M6

I would try wiring in the factory tail lights to see if the problem goes away. If not then you have a trip to the dealer for warranty work.
I don't know what triggers the HMI unit to display the backup camera but I guess it is possible that your new tail lights are causing the problem. If the factory tail lights work correctly then maybe try each side with the new tail lights separately to see if only one side is causing the problem. Hopefully you can do a "process of elimination" to figure out what is causing your camera to stay on. Do the new tail lights come with LED reverse lights? Or did you install an LED reverse light kit? If you did something with the reverse lights then maybe that is the source of the problem rather than the tail lights.

Thanks Mark114, the lights are all LEDs so I'd imagine it has something to do with that then. The system works correct if basically only 1 taillamp is installed. Guess i have some research to do.

Someone else has to have had this issue when they installed these as well
???

If you can troubleshoot it to an issue with the tail lights then I would contact the vendor you bought them from or the manufacturer. Hopefully they are stand-up companies that will help you resolve the issue with the lights.

I have the GM dark tail lights and an LED reverse light kit that required a load resistor. It could be that a load resistor will resolve the issue with your lights too but I would work through the vendors before I would spend time or money to resolve it myself. For the price of those tail lights I wouldn't want to risk voiding the warranty by trying to fix it myself. Good luck!

Uhhh they are related....

From the helix site: "If you have a 2018+, these lights will require a harness for the backup camera".

Dunno, but wish I could pull up the camera on demand, to see what kind of dumba$$ is tailgating......

In fact, the 2019 has a rear view camera option on the rear view mirror, giving you an unobstructed view of tailgating dimwits.

Not really as it is a very wide angle covering about 4 Abe’s across. I have it on my XT5. It’s worse for figuring distance than the rightside mirror. It’s main function is seeing the 4 lanes, not how far behind they are.

I'm having the same issue with the backup camera staying on when I installed led bulbs. I tried wrapping the resistor around the connections on the bulb and after 2 per bulb I got rid of the glow from the led when not on but backup camera still stays on. Any solutions found?

Mine was just a resistor harness that I didn’t install which I probably should’ve done or read the instructions better haha.

But for you it sounds like either the resistors aren’t installed correctly or maybe not enough resistance for the module to think there is a regular bulb installed.

He is actually right I have the same problem I just dont know how to do my harness

This is what you guys need for installing anything with LED reverse bulbs: https://www.gen5diy.com/collections/...mp-led-harness.

Yes, there is no reverse light bleed or backup camera staying on with only 1 taillight installed, but having 2 will lower the resistance too much. This harness solves the issue, it's sturdy and stable.

Were you able to fix that issue ? I have the same issue with mine !
