LT pad and rotor upgrade?? + questions ...

Guys my stock LT brakes havent let me down ever and I drive the piss out of my car but a little boost in performance wouldn't hurt. So I was thinking that when it comes time for me to install new brake pads I would like to put something a little better in. Front and rear.

Has anyone found upgrade pads or rotors for the LT brakes?

Also for anyone who upgraded to the 4 piston brembos from the SS ...are the calipers heavier or lighter than the LT calipers?

EBC Yellowstuff high performance street front brake pads part # DP41210R

EBC slotted and drilled REAR brake discs part # GD1694

Powerstop drilled and slotted front rotors part #AR82187XPR

Cool! looks like you found some pads and rotors?

Seems like everyone has been saying that drilled rotors actually reduce brake performance but some people still like them for aesthetics!

For rear pads you could get some pads from a v6 1le...

I'm waiting for my front brembos to come in. I will be weighing them to compare to the stock LT brakes. I'll post my findings for you if I remember!

I was wondering if the V6 1LE uses the LT brakes in the rear but wasn't sure. I found drilled and slotted rotors for the front and the rear I just gotta post up the part numbers.

The 4 piston brembos are really the best way to go for the front. I don't plan on tracking my car so of the brembos weigh substantially more than the LT's then I'll stick with the LT's.

If you can weigh the stock stuff and the brembo stuff that would be great for the community . Rotors and calipers lol.

I still think the Brembos would be a great upgrade even if you never track the car. I prefer the pedal feel and bite in my ATS and SS Sedan over my Camaro. It will eventually get a Brembo upgrade as well!

I think it's amazing that nowadays you can upgrade your brakes relatively cheaply with name brand performance parts provided from the OEM! 15 years ago when the 4th Gens were new, you'd be looking at spending $4-$5k for a name brand brake upgrade. Now you can do it for under a grand.

Worked fine for me.

[QUOTE=cooper1965;9928721]^ Do you have J6G rpo, the regular heavy duty brake option?
It looks to me like they are a different physical size between regular non hd pad VS v61le pad. Doesn't make much sense to use a different caliper.[/QUOTE

Non-HD brakes. Maybe the difference is internal? Possibly more pad material?

The pads look identical in shape.

I can only find two part numbers for the 1LT rear caliper. I checked 2016 and 2017 model year as well.
13511033 for the left hand
13511034 for the right hand

Theres only 2 brake pad part numbers for the rear as well... at least that I can find.unfortunately I don't know if there is a way to search by rpo code either.
This is how I saw it listed
23344214 ~LT without performance package
23344214 ~LT without performance package, without heavy duty
23344220 ~LT with performance
23344220 ~LT with performance, without heavy duty

Sooooo to me, it looks like there is a performance pad and a non-performance pad.

Plus it sounds like Chez has already swapped pads. and was fine

rorymick

You asked for weights on the LT vs SS front brake rotors and calipers.
I came home to a bunch of boxes last night... so here you go.

2017 Camaro SS Front 4 Piston:
Rotor: 25.8lbs each
Caliper: 13.8lbs each

2016 Camaro LT Front:
Rotor: 20.6lbs each
Caliper:15.8lbs each

72.8lbs for the LT brakes
79.2lbs for the SS Brembos

Besides calipers and rotors, are there any other parts that need to be swapped to convert to the SS 4 pot brembos?

Scoooter12 01-02-2018 12:52 PM

Nope, rotors, calipers, pads, and the brake line should be attached to the calipers. shop around though ive seen some brand new 4piston kits from gm for $450 lately...

R1 Concepts has some nice rotor and pad options for us.

Hey man, great info @rorymick! Thanks a ton for those part numbers.

Any experience with the EBC Yellowstuff pads? I can't find a definitive answer telling me that p/n DP41210R will fit a LT without the Brembo upgrade.
