Shock absorber(s) leaking

So, right on schedule and as expected (69,000 km / 42,883 mi) - the rear right shock absorber on my ZL1 started leaking.

I'm looking in the parts database and there are several parts listed: "fe5" suspension, "fe6" suspension, "fe5/fe6" suspension. Which one is for the ZL1?

I would think I can get away with ordering only the shock absorbers, rather than entire struts. Is that presumption correct, considering that the ZL1 has the magnetorheological suspension?

Are the 22737724 and 22809066 the correct part numbers? Do I need any other parts when replacing the suspension?

Have the new shock absorbers been revised so that they do not leak after only ~40,000 miles any more?

There are a bunch of threads here about this and part numbers also just do a search and you will get your answers. I am to lazy to look them up for you!

I just had to replace one of my struts in front. I was told GM parts were back ordered. They list them on the site but I was told 3 months back in December for my front passenger strut. So I canceled. I know it's the rear just wanted to give you a heads up.

Idk if it’s still the same but in the glove box there should be a sticker you can find your suspension code on . Which reminds me I should look in the z to verify , having GM’s all my life that’s where it has been in the previous cars and trucks I’ve owned ..

Oh btw .. I know so cal garage has those struts in stock .. lmfao sorry .. had too bud .. just messing with you ..:smiling1: if you message them they’ll message back with a coupon lol
Ok my bad that was a low blow lol I’m done

Yes they can be taken apart. The hassle and tools needed might make you want to just order one with a spring already on it but I don't see that listed on GM parts.
They are available used assembled for <1/2 the new cost e.g. on scambay and they might last 5min or 5 years. I can't imagine being in a wreck would help the longevity of the seal after it's jarred like that on the used market.

Lol, don't worry about a coupon; The ID theft ring just sold your HOUSE. But that's nothin' to worry about.

I know this isn't the for sale section, but if anyone needs them, I have a full set of front and rear magnetic ride shocks & struts that I took out of my car at very low mileage. I took them out because I deleted magnetic ride and with went a dual adjustable drag racing setup. LMK if I can help you out in any way and maybe save you some $$$, and clear up some space in my garage!

I would be interested in them if you want to sell them for a fair price. PM me please if so.

Coupe is FE5. Compressing is nothing compared to what you will do to get the rears out, (I have done mine three times and only have 21k miles). Be aware that whomever you get them from be sure to verify they are an approved reseller from AC/Delco as the part now carries Limited lifetime warranty to the original owner.

What's the issue getting the rears out? I am sure I can figure it out but be good to know how others have done it.

I don't want to eliminate my mag ride so I will be looking for replacements for when mine start leaking (one front may already be there)

End Link and lower trailing arm from the knuckle, the nut on the lower arm for the strut is torque to yield. Once you get the strut spring removed you need to depin the 5v connector, I have some info on here how to do that somewhere..

You can order the shock from ac delco. It’s not difficult to dissamble the strut. If you are disassembling the strut you should go ahead and order the rubber bushings for the springs as well because they wear down.

Tutorials are floating around here. Be careful not to snap your mag-ride sensor.
It’s not difficult, took me around 3 hours. Obviously torque to spec and use a spring tool.
