I'm in NC, so I might do the Charlotte one also. Only because I've never went to one of these before....what is required to do the Novice laps other than a helmet? Also, how do these type of events run as far as class, laps, all day event, etc.? Sorry for the stupid questions, just never been able to run one of these events before. Thank you.

Not stupid questions at all!

1. The website is a good source of info. Three 15-20 minute sessions. https://www.tracknightinamerica.com/
2. Helmet info. It says no loaners are available, but I'm pretty sure they have them at Charlotte Motor Speedway. https://www.tracknightinamerica.com/pages/need-a-helmet
3. What to expect videos https://www.tracknightinamerica.com/...da-motorsports
4. You want to make sure your tires, brakes, and brake fluid is in good condition especially for a speedway track like Charlotte Motor Speedway. I've hit 157 MPH out there. Brake pads should be no less than 50% worn, rotors shouldn't have any cracks, lug nuts should be torqued to manufacture's spec.
5. You normally need to take 2-5 psi of air pressure out of your tires. I target 36-38 psi hot towards the end of a 20 minute session. I usually take a few more psi out after the first session.
6. Top off your tank before you get to the track and go refuel between the 2nd and 3rd session. A ZL1 will burn more than 19 gallons at Charlotte Motor Speedway in 3 sessions. More than 1/4 tank is needed on the banked speedway for proper fuel pick up.
7. Track Night in America is set up for beginners. You'll have a cold lap to learn the track and "download" meetings with an instructor after each session.
8. This is not a race. There are no lap times or trophies. It is about going as fast as you feel comfortable to do safely.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Thanks for posting this, I’m gonna hafta try this car on the track and this seems like a good way to get my feet wet.

Rugdr 01-26-2019 08:06 AM

Badmojo, really appreciate the reply. I'm definitely going to have to make it to a couple of these this year. Just curious, where are you located in NC? I'm just south of Raleigh.

Another question, do they make you put any kind of numbers on your doors and your class. I have done a little research and just wasn't real sure. I'm guessing, unless you are competing, you don't need the numbers and classification.

Another question, where is a good place to get a helmet in NC. I haven't had one since my atv and go cart days, so I would likely have to get fitted. Just didn't know where a good spot may be.

Also, do you trailer your car there or drive it? I could do either, but I'm about 2.5 hours from the speedway. Might be easier to trailer for me.

Thanks again for the help. It'd be nice if a few of us could get together at one or two of these events.

CamaroKid300 01-26-2019 09:19 AM
