Exhaust set up thoughts
 

Finally went to the shop and this is what we came up with:
From the flex point back we are going with straight 3inch to 4 inch black tips. If for some reason I decide it is too loud he will weld in some bullet mufflers.
I heard a 3inch all the way back and didn't think it was too loud and figure this will be at least a little More quiet than that.
He is charging me 250 for the set up.
Any thoughts? Anyone have this set up?

You will want some mufflers to attenuate the drone. Save your hearing.....

Also consider other drivers.

We would agree with that. You also tend to lose tone quality with a complete straight pipe, but that's just our opinion. Above all, we want you to modify your car in a way that makes you happy!

If you guys at MagnaFlow had a decently priced option I would have gone with you :p

It's all about the sound you are looking for. Magnaflow, the Competition axle back I bought for my 5th Gen SS you guys made were just pipes..

You are paying $250 for some cheap aluminum pipe. (flex point? Where is that?)

You get what you pay for.

In Magnaflows case. A complete 409 Stainless system including valved dual mufflers with polished quad tips.

My custom job was $325. I got the look and the sound I wanted. I had them cut out the exhaust "suit case" and everything else, crimped pipes included. Ran 3" pipes from there to the back and added stainless 4" tips. I was really concerned about the price. But the guy at the exhaust shop said "I can charge you more if it will make you more comfortable".. He further explained it doesn't cost anything to do straight pipes. So the cost doesn't mean it will be a bad job. The same shop have done custom exhaust jobs on Ferraris to Honda Civics...

Things are more expensive in the part southern California that i live in than they are in Bradford, ON.

What's decently priced to you on a brand new vehicle that costs R&D to make parts for? You're way too early into the game if you're expecting killer deals on aftermarket parts... Stop being cheap you already spent over 40k on the car.

They do not make parts for me.

Do you understand that this is a new vehicle and these companies have spent hours and money developing new after market products, so therefore prices will not be cheap in the early months of a brand new vehicle release.

Is that dumbed down enough for you?

I had all 409 stainless steel 3" custom exhaust put on my 16 1SS. I bought a X-pipe, flex pipes, single chamber mufflers, and 4" tips all 409 SS. I had around $300 into the parts, my exhaust shop does mandrel bends and welds with stainless wire. They ended up charging me just under $400 to install the whole system with 3" 409 SS pipe. So I now have a completely custom 3" 409 SS exhaust system from the secondary cats back for just under $700. Those aftermarket pre-fab kits are $1200-1800, then you'll still pay someone at least $200 to install it. So others will have paid $1400-2000 for relatively the same system I I paid under $700 for. Who's the real fools...

By the way I paid $35k for my Camaro and it's just as fast (if not faster) than those $45k camaro's (I don't have all that extra weight from all that fluffy $h!t).

What's your point? OP is bitching about pricing from a major manufacturers and I'm telling them why it costs so much. That shop just has to make sure it fits once and that's it, they don't have to QC it over and over again and make sure it's perfect like aftermarket manufacturers do.

The shop bends, cuts and welds then they're done. They don't have to worry about making a system that hundreds of people will buy and whether there's a couple of cases of it not fitting some cars. It's one and done for them.

It's really not that hard to understand especially when the car is still new. They just started shipping intakes like 1-2 months ago for ****s sake...
