I had around $300 into the parts, my exhaust shop does mandrel bends and welds with stainless wire. They ended up charging me just under $400 to install the whole system with 3" 409 SS pipe. So I now have a completely custom 3" 409 SS exhaust system from the secondary cats back for just under $700. Those aftermarket pre-fab kits are $1200-1800, then you'll still pay someone at least $200 to install it. So others will have paid $1400-2000 for relatively the same system I I paid under $700 for. Who's the real fools...
By the way I paid $35k for my Camaro and it's just as fast (if not faster) than those $45k camaro's (I don't have all that extra weight from all that fluffy $h!t).

What's your point? OP is bitching about pricing from a major manufacturers and I'm telling them why it costs so much. That shop just has to make sure it fits once and that's it, they don't have to QC it over and over again and make sure it's perfect like aftermarket manufacturers do.
The shop bends, cuts and welds then they're done. They don't have to worry about making a system that hundreds of people will buy and whether there's a couple of cases of it not fitting some cars. It's one and done for them.
It's really not that hard to understand especially when the car is still new. They just started shipping intakes like 1-2 months ago for ****s sake...
