Plasti Dipping Rims Tips
 

Hey everyone,

So I know I should get someone to do it professionally but I want to see how they look first.

I've seen a few people do it without taking the rim off the car but I want to make sure everything is done right so I'll be taking the whole wheel off. I know it's all about application so I'll be doing 3-5 coats and then 1-2 coats of glossifier.

However I'm concerned about when I put the lug nuts back on. I don't want to mess up the paint on the rim or the lug. Any tips?

Put washers/tape down the lug holes, you don’t want to paint the lug Seat.

Take some time and go find the wheel painting videos on the plastidip website which is dipyourcar.com… You need this. Watched it a few times before I did mine:

Got It! I'll be doing it later today so I'll post some pics in the am. Seems fairly easy. I might even do my rear end fascia. I hate the cheap plastic look it has currently. I'll be switching fascia's in the future but just in the meantime so it doesn't look as ugly.

There are some good you tube videos on it, I did a Porsche Macan, traded it after two years and they still looked good. I took one wheel off, did the other three on with plastic trash bag wrapped around the calipers. Take your time, do multi coats.
It’s a pain in the ass to get off, use WD-40 to soak the wheel and I used a power washer on a Jeep wheel a few cars ago.

Distance and speed make a huge difference with plastidip. I screwed up my first wheel and had to redo it from being too far away. It gave it a really rough texture.

You get the rough texture mainly if its to close or the can is cold. Make sure you put some hot water in a bowl and put the plasti dip can inside it for a bit. It helps a lot for a smooth finish

So I got the back two done. Looking on how to jack up the front without the jack pads so I can do the front.
