Still waiting, maybe time to cancel.

Hi all, I ordered my 2021 convertible mid January. The last Camaro I owned was a 1970 that I had in high school 50 years ago. My dealer says the car has been built four months ago but is still at the factory waiting for parts. Looks like it might take a couple of months. Should I cancel my order and place a new order for a 2022? Your suggestions will be helpful. I live in Michigan so we have a short time for “top down” driving.

i dont think that one will get here any sooner.

Yeah, if you're already in line for one, I say just stick with it.

If you cancel now, you at least have a chance of being able to buy the car for the price you negotiated. If you cancel, you'd have to negotiate a deal on the new one, and that's going to mean paying through the nose for the foreseeable future.

I ordered a new truck Monday. They said 16 weeks at the earliest. Don’t know a price and don’t know what year it will be

Dutch, The last Camaro I owned was a 78, 34 years ago. I'm in the same boat but ordered in Feb. Canceled that and put my place in line for a 2022. Hang in there!

2022. Not until later next month the assembly line for Camaro will start back up. I'd think by then it will be 2022, not 2021 anyway. I would think your order will be cancelled anyway. If production on 2020 starts in late June you might get your car in Aug sometime.

There's a lot of speculation around when the line will officially open back up, and no one knows what they'll actually be building when it restarts. Additionally, car manufacturers have built and parked tens of thousands of vehicles to wait until they can source the final bits of "computer" components. GM has been executing on a strategy that is apparently referred to as "build shy", meaning build the vehicle to just "shy" of being complete and then park it.

GM still has parts to build more 2021 cars, but they could move straight to building 2022's. Regardless, the almost complete 2021 cars will get their computer components installed LONG before 2022 cars of the same model will get completed. And then there's the logistical issue of shipping all of those vehicles that are currently just parked before the 2022's start getting sent to the lots.

The Lansing Plant will now be closed until June 28. With production startup for the 2022 Camaros still planned for July 16 and the need to launch the all-new Cadillac CT4 and CT5 that are produced there, I’m guessing there won’t be any more 2021 Camaros built - unless they’re sitting in Lansing now unfinished, waiting for parts.

Why are they so worried about the Caddie? Here in Southwest FL I don't see very many Cadillacs out and about except old people buying the SUVs and it's not even the Escalade but the cheaper ones.

Because they’re brand-new designs GM expects to be big sellers among a younger group of buyers. They’ll also be the last Cadillac sedans powered by internal-combustion engines.

I believe the blackwing versions will be available in manual transmission as well - the last time that will be available most likely.

Thanks for the suggestions! I talked to my dealer this morning, he said my Camaro was made in January but is now classified as MP, missing parts. By the time I get it it will have been sitting outside for 5 or 6 months. My order is for a white Camaro with a blue top. Not
thrilled to have that blue top sitting outside for a half year. I can change the order to a 2022 but delivery guess is this fall, again missing Michigan’s short “top down” summer. I will think about it this weekend but I think I going to cancel.

Just FYI that the blue convertible top isn’t available on the 2022 models in case that matters to you.

The 2021's will get delivered before the 2022's will. That means you will wait even longer for a 2022, AND you will lose the option for the blue top.

My Summit White w/ Black top sat outside on the dealer lot for about 9 months, through an entire New England winter, and there were no ill effects to the top. Sitting outside at the plant is 0% different than sitting outside in your driveway, and many people that own convertibles do not garage them.
