Wheel Hub/Bearing Bolts Hard to Torque!!
Anyone have a trick on how to get these rear wheel bearings torqued to 85 ft lbs?
I have the Z28 axles and the boots on the end don’t allow a socket to sit on the bolts fully that attach the wheel bearing to the knuckle assembly. One bolt is about to strip so I’m replacing it, but I can’t get a good grip on those 3 bolts. If you have any tricks or special tools, please let me know. I want to make sure they are torqued properly to avoid any vibration. Thanks! |
i bought offset box end wrenches from harbor freight . i think i turned the axle in a certain way to access the bolt. or i think i did this put a jack under lower control arm and raised the suspension to access. i do know i used a offset box end 18 or 19 mm i installed 1LE axles encounter the same thing i think i just got it as tight as i could and didnt worry about torque. not like a head bolt.

I was never able to get good access to those bolts without disconnecting the UCA, toe rod and trailing arm and dropping the knuckle forward. PITA I know, but there is just no room with 1LE or ZL1 axles.
