Any positive results with aftermarket sc lids?
I see NX and weapon x have some out with claims of better cooling and 25 more hp.
Any validity to these claims from folks who have used them or know someone who has? |
I noticed absolutely zero performance difference after I installed my lid. It does seem to run consistently cooler, at highway speeds regardless of the weather. I have observed my coolant 2 degrees cooler than with the factory SC cover, and my intake temp slightly cooler under most driving conditions. But I can not quantify it, never thought of doing a before and after. What I do know for sure is the NX lid significantly increased SC whine and is a great visual mod. Expensive bling for looks and sound. No seat of pants performance difference whatsoever.

In my non-scientific experiment at VIR... I felt like I may have even lost a little bit. The supercharger sounds much better but that was not worth the expense. If you're going to spend the money then get the stock supercharger ported.

If the LMP or weapon X help with cooling and volume this might be a good buy. Just depends on price. Ported SC is about 1500. If the lid is about $1000+ it might be just a couple grand shy of Mag 2650 which would be the better route.

Yeah. These lids seem overpriced without much proof of actual gains. If you’re dead set on staying with the factory blower it might worth adding, but at the total cost of porting + lid you might as well get a 2300 for a little bit more and get better cooling and performance.
Now, if the lids were 400-500 it would be worth it. |
It appears when they first came out they were $700-$800.
I just got a price request back from NX for $1300. Holy crap. No thanks. |
