8A - Are Drag Radials Really Neccessary
I read every thread relating to drag racing the 8A 2016 SS Camaro and I am of the opinion that drag radials might help to some degree, but aren't necessary for great ETs.
The reason I post and ask this question is: I have a set of 17" drag radials 315 35 17s, mounted on 2002 Corvette Z06 front wheels. I think they're 10.5 inches wide and they were the same height of the 20" wheel/tire on my Grand Sport. They fit perfectly on my 2010 C6 6M Grand Sport and hooked decently. I haven't tried them on the new car yet, it's only a week old and has only 600 miles on it, so it's not broken in. With all of the 1.8 60 foot times posted on these threads, I'm not sure it would be worth the effort to put them on. When the weather warms somewhat, I will test fit them. Usually the problem with fitment is the brake caliper width and the Grand Sport was much bigger than the Gen6. Any thoughts? |
depends on the track, Houston, and SA have great tracks and prep. Central Texas has really poor track and prep, so 2.1 is more the norm. I bracket race and you really want the consistency of the DR.

I had to take out the traction control relay to run at the Holley LS Fest last year...unsuccessfully, by the way...lol. I won runner up in bracket class the first LS Fest year with my 2010 L99 Camaro. After that first year, they moved to index which I hate. |
Yes, you will need drag radials

Drag radials helped with consistency, and after the stall we swapped to a full Hoosier slick.
We are running OEM Front C5Z06 wheels on ours, we had to grind the calipers around the tips and alittle in center, overall not bad. |

please give us a review of the CA test pipe, really high quality piece. Did you move the rear 02 behind the unmanaged cat or just program them off?

I ran the corvette wheels on my supercharged g8gt for my drag radials.. I just wanted to see what he was running on his hoosiers. I'm probably just go ahead and run a 20" drag radial after I get my new wheels for the car and use my 5 spoke 20x9.5's for my Dr's or go back to an 18 on the rear. A few more options in the 18's then the 20's. I'd like to have a little more side wall also. I think it will launch better as it did on my g8.
