FEELER: Gen6 Convertible Sport Bar

I've been communicating with Classic Design Concepts to see if they had plans on the Sport Bar For Convertibles. They've had a convertible in for mock up but hasn't seen too much interest. We'd like to see if any would be interested in possibly a group buy to have some created. Check out the pictures of the Gen5 Sport Bars.

Count me OUT.

I too have been emailing several times with Mike.
Very interested in seeing the final product.
I actually had one on my Gen 5 V6 2013.

I'm leaning towards trading for a drop top, and I'd be interested in seeing what the final product looks like.

Me too. Had a bar like that in my last vert, and I'm glad to being back to fully open.

I think they'd look really good on the Gen6 with the tonneau covering the tops now.

For me it somewhat detracts from the clean lines when the top is down. If it had a mesh insert or something to help with wind buffeting it might at least serve a function.

ChadFarr 05-19-2017 07:29 AM

The purpose is that if the car rolls over, your head is protected lol but a removable mesh Insert would be cool too. That's a great idea!

I thought I wanted one of these (for cosmetic reasons, rollover is not in my risk profile) before I got my car. Now that I have it I'm along the lines of what Drysideshooter said regarding clean lines and doubt I would ever get one.

ChadFarr 05-19-2017 10:11 AM

What if they made one to really compliment the body lines instead of the typical?

Drysideshooter 05-19-2017 11:14 AM

I hadn't realized it was actually a structural element and thought it was purely cosmetic.

What are the ramifications of selling it as having a safety benefit? Any practical or potential legal hassles with doing that? Is the car reinforced enough it that area to actually be able to provide a benefit?

Just based purely on the aesthetic of it, I still wouldn't be interested though.

If it made me compliant with NHRA/IHRA rules, I'd consider it.
