Pros and Cons of 2020 Camaro ownership

My brother is seriously looking at a new 2020 Camaro 2SS with an A8 and I was wondering what were the major pros and cons were about the car.

Thanks

Major cons:
- gas mileage
- cost of insurance
- bumpy ride even with magna-ride.
- hard to see merging traffic on a u-turn.

Major pros:
- pretty much everything else.

You can't get a 2020 2SS with an A8, it will have the A10 or an M6 (the A8 was phased out after 2018 on the SS's due to issues with shudder)...

I love my 2020 2SS, the rear view camera mounted on the upper fin pretty much eliminates the poor visibility problem. On the highway I've done as high as 28 mpg so far... I have the Magnetic Ride Control and it Tour the ride is very nice, in Sport and Track the car handles like it is on rails...

Overall extremely happy with my car...

I will add two more cons: interior room(especially in the rear) and small trunk opening.

And realize that the first three on the list will apply to almost all sports cars.

Despite the cons, I really love and miss mine and can't wait to get out of the storage.

Is your brother buying it to be his daily? Does he have a family that will be in the car as well? If it’s a weekend toy... etc that will dictate any short comings. Mine is a weekend toy so none of the cons matter to me. Visibility is fine and I don’t care about the rear seats or trunk space.
It all depends on how your brother is going to use the car.

Gas Mileage

I have a 2016 Camaro and it averages just over 20 mpg which I believe is fabulous for the horsepower and torque it puts out.

Everyone's situation is different. It's just my wife and I, I'm in WI and it's not my daily driver so it gets put away in the winter. Since it's just my wife and I I'm not concerned about people in the back seat (small). Trunk space is plenty to go grocery shopping, put a couple sets of golf clubs... couple suit cases for a trip... (not both suit cases and clubs.). I wish I had the rear view mirror camera that comes on the '20s... So my only con for my situation is blind spots, but you get used to them. Other then that the car is a complete joy to own.

Here's the deal: He's 74, retired and he's not going to track the car. As being a former 60's GTO gear head he just wants a car to have a little fun with. He's got a wife and a dog so the back seats and the trunk won't be an issue either.
I'm sure he'll enjoy the ride.

Thank you!

In that case I’m sure he will love it!! I grew up in a GTO household. Lol. My Dad always had a 65 GTO.

FYI: the A8 was not phased out due to shutter, the A8 is still being used in several Chevy and GM products. The new fluid seems to have corrected the issue, I own a 2017 Colorado and 2017 SS both running smooth.
The A10 Trans was in the works for some time and with the Mustang GT getting it GM kept things on status quo.

I will agree ride is fine. For the people that think it is harsh they need to drive a Corvette... LOL

Man, I love the picture in your signature.. nice.
I took mine to a car show where I displayed the SS in the national corvette museum and took back roads from Arlington to Bowling Green and got 33mpg overall

To add on the gas mileage comments: it really depends on where you live. If you drive on the highways a lot, high-20s MPG is easy. In cities, you'd be lucky to get 15 MPG. Just keep this in mind.

For my SS 1LE, I don't think the ride is too rough. It's just tough compared to a family Sedan if that's what you are used to. Otherwise, I drive around in Sport mode with the suspension setting following the drive mode.

The C7 Z51 I had wasn't rough, but you scrape everywhere you go. Granted, the car was designed to handle some scraping, but I haven't scraped once in my Camaro.

Pros - lots of fun and enjoyment. The "funest" street car I've ever owned.

Cons - 11 mpg and big fuel costs made worse by adding 5 gal. 100 octane each week
