ZL1 LT4 engine builder plaque??
1 Attachment(s)
I was curious if the LT4 in the ZL1 got this. I haven't found anything that shows it but I know it was done for the corvette. It would be cool to know who built your engine. Time to open the hood and break out the flashlight.

Should be on the back of the blower if I remember right?
|
The Z06 motors are built at Bowling Green..... ZL1 and CTS-V motors are built in Tonowanda and do not get the tags........
|
well who do I send the Christmas card to?

The performance build center doesn't produce engines for the ZL1. The Tonawanda Plant in my backyard does! :D And it's not hand-built there...so no plaques. |

They build Z06 engines at both. Some are hand built and some are machine built. Apparently it matters a lot to some.

The personalized plaque adds 15 rwhp...

The plaque goes in front of the supercharger on the Z06 engine. The ZL1 has an indented LT4 in place of the plaque.

My November built 2020 ZL1 LT4 was hand built by Kaleb Dudley. All of the 2020's I have looked at on dealers lots here in Calgary don't have the hand built engines, strange.
Kaleb, I hope you did a good job! ;) https://i.imgur.com/IkFQYE3.jpg |

That's the same guy who built my LT4. My ZL1 was built January 23, 2020. Last 5 digits of vin, 25516, Rally Green Metallic, 10 Spd Auto

Congratulations on finally getting the car. I think some of the ZL1s got engines from Bowling Green when the strike happened. I could be wrong but I thought I read that somewhere.

When I saw the engine builder plaque that said Tyrone this is all I could envision:

I see mike priest is still at it; he built the engine in my '15 Z/28 :)
I didn't think the LT4 was hand built... |
My 2020 ZL1 has a plaque also. I ordered it a day before the strike. Why do some have it and others Don’t ?
|
Maybe GM used some of the engines destined for the C7 ZO6 to get the ZL1s built! If that’s the case then those will be sort of rare ZL1s! Just my idea on the subject.

Hi guys,
I also have a Nov. build 2020 ZL1 with an engine builder plaque on it. I first thought it was because of the GM strike...and that it caused a short supply of LT4's... since ZL1Affair & I had the same TPW before the strike. But I did some looking around and found out some stuff, ...but first I'd like to state that I am not a Camaro expert... but rather a passionate enthusiast of the Camaro. By looking on the net for new 2020 ZL1's for sale... I noticed that random cars are built with these hand built engines with the plaque. The lowest VIN car with a hand built motor was in the 900's ...then randomly some others showed up along the way. Most of my findings were in the 22000 to 24000 VIN number range, ...but then again ,these are ONLY the one's I was able to positively verify by a clear picture of the front of the supercharger. My findings show that approx. 17% of 2020 ZL1's have these hand built engines...regardless of the transmission type or ZL1 version (1LE or not) , and in Canada they seem more rare. In Canada they seem to be a little more than 10% of 2020 ZL1 builds. Why... again...I'm no expert nor do I work in-house at GM , ...but I think that since the new 8th Gen Corvette has begun production , the Bowling Green plant must of had LT4 engine surplus and must have sent them to Lansing in batches. Anyhow, its a very interesting subject. Please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. Have a nice day guys... Andrew |
This thread should be a Sticky...
|
My 2020 1LE also has a plaque on it.
It is in storage at this time and if I remember mine was an early build. |
Found this video that was shot at the PBC in Bowling Green. Pretty cool to have a ZL1 with a personal touch.

I ordered my 2020 Crush ZL1, 6 Speed, the day before the strike started. I took delivery of my vehicle on 11/26/2019. The last five numbers of my VIN is 14319.
|
Must of just started that. No Plaque on mine. Just has LT-4
|
Like i said in my earlier post... the plaqued hand-built LT4's seem to show up once in awhile... i checked myself by identifying a few of the 2020 ZL1's on the market with pictures to proof this... unfortunately, i lost a page of my data ...so i do not have the last VIN for the early build plaqued LT4, which was somewhere in the 900 range.
Here are some VIN endings of the Plaqued Hand-built LT4's i found , 3032 ,11471, 12678, 14104, 15082, 15179, 16182, 16513, 22004, 22711, 24183... and there are certainly a few more to add here and there. Lets not forget that the 2020's are still being produced and will be till sometime this summer... so that means that some other plaqued engines may appear in the future. My car's VIN ending is 15179 , LT4 built by Samuel Hines mated to a 6-speed manual trans., had it delivered home to Quebec Canada on Jan.23 2020 , car was built sometime in Nov. 2019 after strike. I figure the factory was somewhere between the VIN numbers 9000 to 10000 range when the strike happened... please correct me if i'm wrong. Hey... if anyone here works at the Grand River Lansing assembly plant or knows someone who does... please share any knowledge or info you may have on these Plaqued LT4's.... just for amusement... while some of us are waiting for the snow to melt! take care  Andrew |
Oh... sorry 363mp...i forgot to add your VIN ending to the list , just added your VIN 14319 to my list... your in the U.S. right?
Congrats...welcome to the list buddy! |
As mentioned prior mine is in storage so cant check production date. I did look up vin and it ends 11686
|
Thanks for adding your VIN 20Madman... i'll be sure to add your car to my list.
Welcome to the list buddy! By the way... i'd like to correct my earlier post in which i said that more cars with plaqued hand-built LT4's were in the 22000 to 24000 VIN numbers... i did a quick check-up on todays market for 2020 ZL1 cars for sale in Canada...plus i added the ones you guys gave me , and the most common VIN's with plaqued LT4's has surprisingly changed... 3 in the 14000 range, 3 in the 15000 range , and 4 in the 16000 range. I think the percentages i gave earlier will definitely change from here on... Time will tell  Andrew |
You are welcome Andrew.
Glad to be part of the group, looks like a great forum! |
Just a quick question that you may know?
Does anybody have an idea how many 2020 Zl1 and 1LE that Chevy plans on producing and a break down on color? I found something about prior years but just was kinda of wondering for 2020. Maybe we could start a survey? |
I wonder if they had spare LT4s after the 2019 Corvette line shut down?
|
Well to answer your question 20Madman... the person who can best answer that is ''mlee'', he's the best.
You can find his post on production numbers in the 6th gen+ Camaro General forum under the ''sticky'' of 6th gen camaro production numbers. Its info that's fun to know for all us Camaro enthusiasts. Sometimes i'm surprised to see how many of these ZL1's are produced for Canada... (i'm talking about all the years... 5th gen & 6th gen ZL1's) , and that i never see any of them on the roads around here. |
Thanks, I will check it out!
