Spy Pics: Group of 2016 Camaro Prototypes Spotted Out Testing
19 Attachment(s)
New round of 2016 Camaro spy photos, this time we have close-up shots of a large test group rushing to get back to the safe confines of the General Motors Proving Grounds.
This particular test group--8 or 9 cars strong--consisted of solely high-performance variants. There didn't seem to be a six-cylinder in the bunch, and they made one serious roar as they tried to streak past the photographer's lens. Hmm, overall seems to be same general shape as gen 5 if you discount the padding around the rear window area. Hope to see more uncovered soon! Not like any secrets are going to be stolen at this point.
|
I can't wait to see the real thing! So far they don't look that different.. which isn't a bad thing
|
Getting closer!!!
|
man they are really padding the sh*t out of the back window area, they really don't want anyone seeing what is up....LOL
|
Good to see more pictures. Now we know they have more than one on the road. Looks like numbers 3, 2, 7, and 1. Looking forward to seeing some of the covers removed.
|
Confirmation of a grafted-on '14 nose. Much of the rest enjoys wearing a "fat suit".
|
Very nice. THIS is why I check in at this site at least a couple of times per day.
Okay, guesstimators of the overall length and wheelbase, we now have some very horizontal shots... work your magic! |
I will assume that the standard V-8 model will have wider rear tires then front and these all look as if the width is the same front and rear. So these are either I-4 turbo or V-6 engine models, looking at quad exhaust I want to say that these are V-6 engined cars. They look as though these cars sit lower then the current V-6 Camaro so maybe expect a better handling car even in base trim.
|
Looks like our big headlights are back!!!!!!!!!! Yes Baby, 2010-2013 all the way but I don't like what I am seeing in the rear end
|
Strange looking wheel cover disks.
|
Someone needs to try to photoshop through the see through mesh on the front.
It's tough to tell at the moment, but I'm not digging the lower grill opening. |
Yeah, the lower grill looks like the "catfish" 4th gen grill or the TF4 Camaro grill.

Under the camo, it looks very much like the 5th gen, but I'm sure theres much going on under there we can't imagine. There are a couple shots from when the car is just passing by the camera (not directly in front) where you can kind of read the tire model. Can anyone enhance these a bit more and see the actual size? Looks like 20s, but if this is a smaller car, they could be 19s. Once we figure that out, we can more accurately come to a conclusion on wheel base. Overall, very cool stuff! |

There is no way one can see how the tail lights look.
It might be something similar to the 2014 models and we see only the circle opening on the mask. Lets hope to see more spy-shots in the near future with less masking on them :) |
The side shot, looks like the Challenger with all the camo on. I'm sure and hope that they are not going in that direction.

I see a full width muffler setup similar to the ATS cars out back, which could be a decoy to throw us off.

Looks like the rear diffuser doesn't cut half way through the license plate like the 14-15s
|
I made this just to have some fun, of course I know the prototypes have fake panels but it was a fun exercise, still... I see the new camaro is smaller in general terms, ot sure if I like that... btw is just me or I see a cat fish in the photos???...

take a closer look at how wide the tires are. They don't look very wide at all, unless that's the 4cyl model. sorta like 255/x/x which is as wide as my buick enclave.

The gen6 will need to trim off 400 to 600 pounds to make a reasonable grocery getter being pulled by a stout 4cylinder. In addition it needs to be strong enough structurally to support a high hp v8. I suspect a narrower butt end with smoother transitions as well as in the front with the front being an inch or so lower than the 14/15 gen5. The roofline will be sleeker in the back and a more dramatic slope on the sides.
All in all I am thinking on terms of a jaguar. Just not so pronounced and iconic. I dont think it will still look and feel like the old school 68/69 retro that it currently sports. Maybe instead post 70's styling but with less meat and potatoes so the 4cylinder target market can be addresses with a lighter stronger v8 version to top off the mustang once again. In summary, I am glad I bought a 14 as that has all the personalityand character I was looking for, visually and mechanically. I await to see the finished product... |
Unless you have x-Ray vision there is no more to see here. In fact now with wheel Camo there is actually less.
These shots only confirm further that both the front and rear are faked to make see a bigger car. Nothing tells us headlamps or tail lamps. In fact if you look close we are likely seeing the JC Whitney lamps that got rpeveryone worked up on the Gen 5 car at exactly the time in its development. |
I'm wondering if that's a giant single muffler under the tail. I can't really tell where the outlets are coming from in these pics. If it is that might mean no more true duals.

This is getting more and more excited for 2016 to be released but I don't know if I should wait or just get a 2014-2015 for a good rate. Decisions decisions!
|
Is it me or is that just one huge muffler straight across the back?

nice to see, but can't tell all that much with that much disguising.
|
I think the tires have less width to them, like what you would find on an LS. It seems like there is more ground clearance, too.

Hurts my head to try to figure anything out , But was wondering if any of you talented people have lined up the drawing discovered at the GM plant( the one with the photo that was in the background )with any dimensions of this car ?

HAHA!! I thought it was just my imagination! Good call! :bellyroll: |
Looks like a big heat extractor on the hood?
|
It's definitely either a 4 cyl mule, or a 6'er... Not a v8 from the looks of how wide the tires are.
