Zl1 1LE Aero kit installed
10 Attachment(s)
Finished up installing the 1le aero kit.. just have slots to make for dive planes. Also I'm going to skin them along with mirrors in carbon fiber.
Some of the most common questions you may have.. 1. Yes the wing fits the SS and Zl1 but, convertibles may have and additional hole left open for the antenna. 2. Will the zl1 front bumper work with the zl1 1le parts.. Yes, but you need to make 3 slots on each side 2 for the dive planes near the side markers and 1 down low horizontal for the winglets on the end of the spoiler. 3. Will the zl1 1le splitter fit the zl1 bumper? Yes but you need to shave 2 small plastic tabs so it will fit flush near the grill area. Also the slots for the winglets as I mentioned earlier. 4. Can you use your DRL's in the new bezels.. No the GM units are to big and bulky if you had some smaller light strips I'm sure you could rig up something. 5. Was it easy.. yes.. just time consuming pressing out the upper and lower grills and it hurts the hell outta your fingers at the end of the day also just taking time not to brake the tabs. The other part that takes a while are all the little screws that hold on the bumper, fender liners, and plastic covers. The 5th gen was 100 times quicker to take off but there is actually more room to work inside the fender wells. Here are some pics without dive planes some of you may want to do the conversion and not lose your DRL's I went Mosaic blk on the splitter and the grills seem to match just fine, like I mentioned I'm ordering a cf skinning kit tomorrow to do the dive planes and morrors.. so finished project will be 2 or 3 weeks. |
Phenomenal work!

I was worried that the splitter wouldn't look right without the dive planes but I think I like it!!! Thanks for the pics man, it looks great!

Your welcome it probably look better with zl1 bezels still in to.

Is that possible, when the side holes for the canards will be done, to clips or unclips the canards whenever we want?
Just by hands trough the lateral grill Without removing the front bumper? Just removing the clips behind to let the canard go? Concerned about that: Canard are not authorized on the road in Europe (normes) But they are ok on the track Just want to add them on track and remove it on the road without a full front bumper removal... Thank you for the answer ( those who already installed it) |

Hope to see it in person this weekend. |
QQ: Does the front lip of the 1LE actually stick out a bit further? Or does it just look like it because there's more black?

Yes they push in through slots and the holes accept a pin just like the front bumper grill uses. In hope that I can accesseverything through the fender liner.. for I need to still make the slots. Looks like plenty of room and can be removed easy. If the release on the pins are as hard as the bezels and grills it be a beotch.. my freaking fingers hurt from pressing so hard on the clips or retainers. The actual pins push out easy though. I'll see if I can snap a picture of hardware this evening. |

OP, did you get the upper grille, lower grille, ZL1 1LE splitter, and dive planes from ACS composites? If so, did they include all the required hardware to attach all the 1LE parts mentioned above? Or did you reuse existing hardware already that came with car?
From the looks of your pics, it seems the upper and lower grills attach with tabs. For dive planes and bezel, what hardware do you need to secure them to bumper? Also, for 1LE splitter, is it attached with existing stock splitter hardware and grill tabs? |

Can someone tell me how to get these bezels out? I am afraid to break these fasteners.

Looks awesome, nice job! Did you have the stock rims powder coated black?

Hell no I would't been able to make my Car payment if I bought this stuff from ACS.. or on ebay these people are ripping us off! these parts are cheap at the dealer and even more cheaper on line like at Iamgmparts.com All the hardware on the grill can be reused. those tabs have locking mechanisms built into the grill and bumper and some of the holes in the tabs take another easy locking mechanism.(you can see them in pics they are white and the tabs are black or yellow(depends on car color) the only extra parts that are needed are inserts for the splitter winglets, 6 screws for the wingles that come up glove box screw, and locking tabs for dive planes after you push through the slots. |

Yes $405.00 in Houston at Coatings by Coats.. smaller rims cheaper. Id like to sell and buy 19s though! Cant decide Yellow or red caliper though! |

finger strength mine are aching ( The bezels were the toughest just wait til you put the new ones in they are very hard to press in) especially the lower corner to outside of the car had to use something to press against the bezel my fingers couldn't do it.. You have to work slow... keeping pressure on the part so once you unlock it by pushing up or down the tab your pointing at has a lip that has to clear on the fascia... keep pressure once it once its cleared or your go to the next one and it lock back in place with out you knowing! I started along the top outside edge and moved inward.. then did lower side 1st starting on opposite side. |

That one I dont know mine had 4 clips.. 2 on top start those 1st 2 on side must slide over to clear stop.. mine were not cemented on the clips should retain it.
all i had to do where push tabs over one direction to cleat the stops. |
Yep. Someone had put JB Weld or something. I picked it off and it came off normally. Maybe they were working out kinks in the assembly when mine was produced in 10/2016.
***Pro-Tip*** I just shoved thin popsicle like sticks into every tab of the grill and it just pulled right off in about two yanks. I wish I had done this with every other piece. |

Thanks to jason for sending the template. About ready to slot.. I ordered another set of dive planes last night skin.. I'm going to finish these up today and wrap the hood the same color as fuel lid.. semi gloss.. not quite as flat as the 1le's 3m flat 12 wrap.
Template seems to line up good probably won't go as wide as the template shows until I test fit back n fourth. |
cant wait to see the finished product EDFHobbies!

I'd shave the tabs off of the canards and use 3m moulding tape in a heartbeat.

Plastic Is soft so drilling made cutting easy.. clips on holds the dive planes very well!
|
Looks really good! I feel it needs to be lower. But aside from that, NICE!
|
The SS is probably faster roll racing this is quicker 1/4 mile and feels like it handles alot better.. this has better traction off the line or maybe it's not all power at once like the ss with the 2.3 eforce.
|
Wow. Your car looks so awesome and aggressive. Really nice work.
What kind of clips hold the dive planes in place? Are they built in to dive plane or did you have to buy something separate to attach to inside of bumper? I am still trying to figure this one out. Perhaps if I could see the dive planes and bumper, it might make more sense. |

Here ya go.. part number in pic.. they cone in blk or white not sure you get a choice of color
|
Thanks for the reply. Makes more sense now.
Enjoy that beast this weekend. I am sure it is going to get some serious looks now, especially with the yellow paint color. |
Wait, the splitter is Mosaic Black from GM? I thought the OEM front Aero Parts were just sort of a matte plastic. You can order them painted? Or did you have it painted?
|
Looks Amazing, Nice Work and done on a Budget!
Have you thought about getting your side mirrors done in black? |
Perfect
I like it!!!! Buy the 20" replica ZL1 1LE tires.... Only thing missing.... |
