Black ZL1 spotted in wild!

Took these this morning on 96. Car looked and sounded incredible in person. He saw I was taking pics, smiled, then punched it. Pics absolutely do little to fully portray the badassness of this car. These were the best shots I could take from a commercial vehicle. Saw a Hyper Blue one a half hour later coming the other way so I couldn't get a shot of that one. Highly recognizable from both the front and rear.

Nice find. Can't wait to see a Hyper Blue one.

Jeffro19 04-18-2016 02:56 PM

Sweet! The first uncamoed ZL1 on the street that I know of. This car is gonna be awesome! :headbang:

Hockeypucks 04-18-2016 03:02 PM

I was so shocked to see it I almost didn't get any pics and just stared at it until I remembered there are tons of fellow car guys (and girls) wanting to see them haha. This really has me thinking hard about buying a C7 or not.

Thanks for the pics. I see you live in Detroit so they are probably running around from time to time.

Great pics. Thanks! It's nice to see some new colors. Now I just need some new 1LE pics in different colors in the wild.

Hockeypucks 04-18-2016 03:35 PM

Yeah I see thousands of cars a day so I've gotten many glimpses of the new models of cars but can't always get pics. Was next to a Focus RS on the way home yesterday. One perk to being in the Motor City. Still wanna see a 1LE though.

DenverTaco07 04-18-2016 04:25 PM

yeah baby - getting very close. I say first delivery early September.

Thanks!

Baker 04-18-2016 04:28 PM

Hard to tell but are those wheels grey like the ones they debuted or black?

yeah, can't tell, but the debut rims are dark enough and the style along with the color nailed it. I love black wheels, but I think the debuted wheels are the ones i'll go with - especially if they are the standard.

It was tough to tell but they're pretty dark. I'm not a fan of dark wheels but hard to find much wrong with how this car looked.

clanky 04-18-2016 04:38 PM

oh nice getting closer! i'm trying my best to hold out, but if I keep having to drive by the chevy dealership and being taunted by the 16 2ss out there then I dunno if I can wait long enough. Plus if it's over 65k i'm just going to go with the 2ss anyways.

You should be able to get into one just under 65K and if you can afford it, it is worth waiting for. You can do it :thumb:

JoeP@TeamBeckyD 04-18-2016 06:17 PM

.....Awesome!

Great Pics!...

I agree the ones debuted just fit perfectly with it.

I feel ya, I'm in the same boat ... buy the 2SS 2016 now or wait for the 17' ZL1. Think about his, with mods, the 2SS will be more than enuf power.

BradfordCamaro 04-18-2016 07:33 PM

BADASSERY
Will that fit on a license plate? LoL

datboi448 04-18-2016 07:40 PM

Great pics! Even see the blind spot assist in action.

clanky 04-18-2016 10:22 PM

ha well glad i'm not all alone with this decision. i even started pricing out a few extra goodies and I would get around 5-8k difference between everything I wanted done to the SS and if the zl1 is at the 60kish mark. Which like you said is more than I would ever need, but I do have a few buddies who are saying to just hold out and wait. lol. Oh well keep me informed what you end up doing either way!

jaymsu 04-18-2016 10:42 PM

I saw a red one in front of 12 Oaks mall this afternoon, but couldn't take a pic. Looked nice in person

Nice, that makes 3 that were out and about yesterday. It's frustrating when we see these and can't get pics. Seems to be they're up and down 96 right now which makes sense since Milford is off that freeway.

Denis 04-19-2016 05:34 AM

oh hell yea. looks mean in black.

I want to see a black one with the LED strip under the headlight in red.

NINJA10R 04-19-2016 05:57 AM

ONLY THING I CAN SAY IS PLZ BE UNDER $ 65k

Raven87 04-19-2016 06:56 AM

Wow. Just awesome!

Thanks for those pics! Looks like my C7's days are numbered for sure now.

Can't wait see and hear one

mkorgan 04-19-2016 08:18 AM

So, is it just me or does this tell you that they may be able to roll out ZL1's with the current tooling setup they have on the lines? If so, we could see them much earlier than we thought or most of us thought.

It is an interesting thought and one I hope you are right about. On the other hand Oppenheimer said they have a whole summer of testing to do. Correct me if I'm wrong but they haven't submitted their final hp numbers to SAE yet have they? All in all the words "late 2016" still ring in my head. While it would be a pleasant surprise I have a sinking feeling that we may be able to take delivery in late fall just in time to put the car into hibernation till next spring. Major bummer. This is why you can't sell beach umbrellas in February. I would love to have just a few months of driving weather. We shall see.

They changed "Late 2016" to "Mid 2016" a couple weeks ago.

mkorgan 04-19-2016 08:58 AM

Honestly, I think GM knows all they need to know about this car. It has been testing at the ring for almost a year now if I am correct and I am betting they are just waiting on a couple of "house cleaning" items (SAE reports, build sheet finalization, marketing campaigns sign-off, etc.) and they will let this thing go. I can't help but thinking they want to get this thing in the market ASAP so they can start building the positive reviews and momentum toward the Z/28 which I still think is going to be a '17 model year car as well so GM can say that they provided the most comprehensive suite of models in the brands history for the 50th anniversary. I would not be surprise to see something about the ZL1 release date at Indy now that we are seeing them on the street.

I've seen that on the mobile site. Other sources including GMs chat personnel continue to say late 2016 even up to this passed week. Under promise and over deliver is a nice idea though.

clanky 04-19-2016 09:10 AM

Awesome so it got moved up! So when exactly is mid 2016, I would of thought june but isn't that summer also?

hmmm...interesting. I could understand if the mobile site said Mid 2016 the entire time, that it was just a mistake, but it seems, on account of members here - that the mobile site was changed from Late to Mid, a purposeful change. The regular desktop site doesn't say anything, and frankly I'm not sure how well the chat folks know what's going on. I hope I'm being more than just wishful on this but I could be just that.

I would think the latest definition of Mid would be September. Now we really don't know crap other than assumptions...but why would they leave "Available Mid 2016" up on their mobile site so long if it was bad info? We really don't know though.

Mr. Wyndham 04-19-2016 09:17 AM

Nice find!

It could come out earlier...but I wouldn't get your hopes up about that, just yet.

Looks badass "in the wild".

Chat personnel are after all just employees hired to communicate. People at every job are at times misinformed. The spokesperson at the NYAuto Show said Xmas! Lol. If that's the case they can keep mine until next spring. Anyway the mobile site is where most people go anyway but I've chatted with them numerous times over the last several weeks since NYIAS and still the same response. Maybe I'll get lucky and find someone who knows a bit more. I'm trying to figure out what I'll do with all my free time once I get the car. This is taking up my whole day. Oh yea I'll probably be shredding the tires one light at a time. Then I can spend another $65k on tires. Ha ha

I'm still hopeful, but ready for anything really. I just think the signs are there that it will be available earlier than say the Camaro Six was, which would be nice.

I certainly hope so. But I also want them to take as much time as they need to get every bitty hp and fraction of a G they can get out of it.

We're already being pleasantly surprised with a SS, 1LE, and ZL1 within a year of production. But I totally understand the excitement.

datboi448 04-19-2016 09:42 AM

Its entirely possible that it is one of the preproduction cars we have already seen with the camo vinyls removed.
