Kind of deceptive to show MPG when in V4, no?

It's way too early to begin judging its fuel mileage, you won't come near peak efficiency until around 5k miles at minimum.

When I had my 1LT 3.6 V6 - I was getting garbage numbers, low 20's on the highway. At around 5k miles in that same car I managed to pull off 42 MPG all highway...yes...FOURTY TWO...

In my 2SS my numbers were in the 13's to 15's until about 5k miles... after that it improved to around 17 - 19 around the city and currently I can pull off 20 in the city and about 28 on the highway.

You have to give it time to loosen up a bit.

Not sure why you say that, All 6th Gens have the capability of going into V4 which happens on its own and they are generally always in V4 while cruising on the freeway, even in Sports mode.

Only automatics. Manuals don't drop cylinders at all.

Looking at MPG in isolation without also considering average speed is pointless. I was once down to below 15MPG between fill-ups, but my average speed in that time was only 22 MPH! 455HP to average 22 MPH. How pathetic is that!

Also, as mentioned, fuel economy will also be lower until the engine is fully broken in.

Last 4th of July weekend I drove my 16 SS A8 for a few days in mostly city local driving with no interstate long drives and this was my fuel mileage. Just clicked 8500 miles on it and it seems the car is getting better fuel mileage and gaining more power as it breaks in. It's not my daily driver and I only drive it on weekends or holidays usually. It was rainy every day I drove so I was definitely driving it like a granny but either way my fuel mileage was good.

Not really - there's not an on/off switch. I am surprised at how often it stays in 4 cylinder mode - even when giving it modest gas on a long flat stretch. It'll move to 8 cylinder if I punch it or am going uphill.


The real questionable procedure that I see sometimes (didn't look too closely at this thread, so not calling anybody out) is when some guy posts his mileage results and shows either "instant" mpg or the last 25/50 miles. If this had been a longer trip, I'd have logged the entire trip. Got a 750 mile trip coming up this weekend - will be fascinated to see the long-distance results. :)

Yeah, the "instant" mpg for what you are doing right at that exact moment can be a hoot. Take your foot off the gas and watch it go up to 90 mpg, LOL...

My lifetime average over 21,300 miles is 19.7mpg. My 400 mile average is 18.5-19.2mpg.

I had a car that went up to 999.9 instant mpg. Floor it in 2nd Then let off. was funny

These cars can really suck down the premium gas when you throttle them.
However
My mileage whent from 18.0 to 18.9 after break in. (2017 2SS M6)
I drive 50/50 freeway/streets, and most freeway is urban freeway. I know when you get out in the country that the mileage will increase.
This is not a gas mileage car, And I don't drive it like grandma.
Funny note; my 2016 Silverado gets 19.4 (and I don't drive that like grandma either).

Run a couple of tanks. Record miles and gallons and calculate. See if that jives with what the DIC shows.

OP, what is the length of your trips, and how often are you filling up? Even running the AC driving short trips in the Summer heat shouldn’t be that low. My 12 ZL1 got about 13-14 and I wasn’t driving it to get fuel economy. I’d at least do a manual calculation of fuel economy and check it against the computer
