On my previous car, a scumbag caused $2200 worth of damage to my car. I went through insurance. My car's value hovered around $47-48k consistently over the years. Once that report hit carfax, every website started giving me values of not more than $38k. It was a ****ing PITA to sell the car for much more than that, but I lucked out because the buyer really loved the way I tastefully modded the car with forged wheels and decals.

Lesson learned, I'm going to eat the cost next time. There's no scenario where saving $2200 minus the deductible upfront is worth a $10k hit on resale value down the line.

Looking at the carfax report, you'd think a god damn boulder fell on the car where I'd probably have to point out the damage to you if you didn't know anything before hand. And having to explain yourself to potential buyers along with having the body shop receipt, a headache.
