Thanks very much for the detailed info. Unfortunately, I'm on the lucky VIN list so it's off to the dealer this week. If you want to check the pan for the raised number at home, you don't have to remove the aero pan. There are two quick ways to let you clearly see the number (or lack thereof).
1. You can see the raised number from the gap behind the crossmember on the passenger side. The gap is to the right in this photo. Use a good light or camera. This requires you raise the car to get into position.
2. Another method is to slide a camera phone up into the gap behind the crossmember and take a few photos. Obviously I'm using a lift, but this can be done without ramps in the driveway with a bit of stretching. Be careful not to hit the exhaust when reaching underneath.

Here's the photo that was taken using method #2.

You guys must have awfully long arms. I can't get anywhere near close enough to get a good pic with the car on the ground. I have Race Ramps on the way this week for other stuff so I will use them to check it out.

Bringing mine in tomorrow. Hopefully I get the all clear

Instead I saw what looked like sharply engraved numbers in the area I circled in blue below. It was hard to see this area and could not get a pic. There was definatley engraved digits in this area so it will not be in the same area as the raised letters would be.

Again VIN ends in 134437 built 12/15

This definitely is NOT the right spot for the raised letters. Just letting others out there know.

For a quick way to check, see trz174's posts in this thread which are invaluable. Post #118 will show how to hold your phone to get a pic that is like that in #127. I had the car on ramps which made things easier.

All smooth surface on the pan for me, which means I won't have to have the fix, though I will bring it by the dealer just for a double-check. My car was built Feb 16 2016, was flagged in the recall, VIN ends 146146.

I was going to add trz174's 2 posts on the first page before the thread's got merged and my post got "lost" in the middle of it all. Thank you trz174.

As a side note, if you want to download the entire manual you may do so from this post:

I know there is a pretty good size thread however, I figured I'd post this here as I do have the bulletin so it doesn't get lost somewhere in the thread and for people to find it easier. GM updated their dealership network SIS (service info system) over night. I called my dealership and made an appointment for monday morning. Make sure you get this checked ASAP as IF you do have it. It is a LONG and PITA process to implement the preemptive (or simply put, fix) process. It will require them to put the entire engine on a cradle to hold it up and get to work. On average, it's a 9 hour work and not everyone can do it, a gen 6 camaro/ c7 corvette specialized tech is the only one who can. So bank on a couple days at least, IF you have it.

Here is the entire Bulletin 30990 in PDF which you can download via my dropbox OR view it via the attached bulletin as PDF here:

Please elaborate for us all as this pic is directly off the PDF and there are others who have posted pics in this very thread with raised letters in this EXACT precise spot circled in red (Not the one with # 2) . Maybe I am missing something and if so I would like to know. The orientation of the pic is that the bottom of the pic is the front of the pan. Drivers side left passenger side right

TRZ,

I think I snagged the correct photo of my car. Does this look right? When comparing to yours, I think I'm looking in the right spot. Don't see any raised coding but I also can't see anything engraved either.

63falcondude 04-10-2016 08:50 PM

I went from the top of the engine bay with a cell phone recording and found an etched date followed by AO something. It was where JFM jr circled in blue in a previous post. Could not see anything raised further back.

Just open the hood and slide your phone a bit below the crank pulley. Went in a second time with an endoscope to make sure.

Thank you I was just going to ask if anybody that has found the laser etched numbers confirm it was in the area I had circled in blue.
