BCCC Club Members,
I wanted to remind everyone about the upcoming
Hernando Water Tower Festival Car Show. We do not have the 2014 flyer ready to distribute
yet...waiting on the Hernando Main Street Chamber of Commerce. However, I do have most of the event details and I wanted to share so hopefully club members can go ahead and get this date on your calendar.
The
Hernando Water Tower Festival Car Show will be on Saturday, October 11th at the Hernando Town Square...straight down I-55 for folks coming from the Memphis area.
It doesn't take long in a Camaro...I promise. Should be 20 or 30 miles for most people.
I think this is the 11th or 12th year for Annual Water Tower Festival and 2014 will be the 6th year a charity car show has been a part of the overall weekend festivities (I've been involved in the Water Tower Festival car show since the beginning.) NAPA is usually our presenting sponsor and I anticipate that they'll be involved again this year. As you know, NAPA is a big sponsor of Cars & Coffee that many of us participate in as well.
The Hernando Water Tower Festival takes place over the course of several days, with Saturday being the biggest day of the festival. Saturday's activities should include: 10K runners race, BBQ cooking contest, live music on multiple stages, crafts, Hernando Farmers Market, kids zone area, food truck vendors,
and of course the car show.
OK, so about the car show:
-It benefits low-income at-risk youth in our YMCA Y-CAP program
-It is open to cars, trucks and motorcycles
-We have classes based on the age of the vehicle (1920's to late model).
Each vehicle entered is eligible for 5 awards: best paint, best interior, best of class, people's choice, and best of show.
-We usually have 80 to 90 cars, although we're increasing show registrations each year
-The car show is from 10:00am to 2:30pm (Registration and Check-In beginning at 9:00am)
-We park the cars in and around the town square so that all those who are walking through the festival get to see the cars
-The Hernando Chamber estimates we have several thousand folks walk through the town square during the festival...so it is a great way to show off your ride. Festival patrons are very respectful of the vehicles.
-Early-bird registration is usually $20 and day of registration is $25...we obviously encourage early-bird registration if at all possible...helps us plan accordingly
-We have goodie bags for participants and door prizes along with plaques for the award winners
-There is a "Club Participation Award"...would love to see Bluff City Camaro Club walk away with that!
Hope that provides you with a little more info about the Hernando Water Tower Festival Car Show. I am obviously passionate about it as I love cars and it benefits the YMCA. I have been a Regional Director with the YMCA since 2004 and have been with the organization since 1998. We do some amazing work here in the Mid-South Community and we are a United Way member agency.
I'd love for anyone from BCCC who is interested to register for this charity car show. It would be great to have some more Camaros at the event this year. Mid-South Challengers and Mid-South Mustangs have participated in years past. If you have friends who have
other cars, they are certainly welcome too! This day is all about the kids and we want to get as many cars registered as possible.
If anyone has any questions, feel free to PM me or you can send me an email at
kcrim@ymcamemphis.org.
Thank you all for your support!
I'll get the flyer posted as soon as it is released.
