I've made some calls, and I've pleaded with my elected officials. I've even convinced relatives who were previously against the plan to support it. Now my call is worth at least a few more. I'll be damned if anyone in Missouri or Kansas is against saving the Big Three.

Here is what I just wrote to Senator Webb of VA:
Senator Webb,
I normally don't feel compelled enough to reach out to my representatives. However, given the current events in the economy and with our auto manufacturers, I feel more than compelled to write and make my voice heard.
I have been watching some of the proceedings, following the news and reading many forums online. There is a lot of confusion in the general public about what the Big 3 are asking for and what the government is considering. They are asking for low-interest loans to help them weather the storm they are facing. I firmly believe that any of the manufacturers going bankrupt or completely out of business at this point in time would put our economy into even more of a nose-dive.
I would ask that you and the other Senators allow the manufacturers to receive the additional loans they are seeking. We have approved a MASSIVE bailout for the investment and banking community. That is money that I and other taxpayers are going to have to provide. And the executives of those companies that have been bailed out are going to face little or no punishment for their actions, which in part, have led to the situation we are in now. At least the auto manufacturers are only asking for loans which they intend to repay.
I would ask that you and the other Senators ensure that the automakers do outline their plans for recovery and for making themselves viable longer term. Once they have submitted those plans and they seem achievable, please extend them the requested loans and let's help our largest US industry get back on its feet.
Thank you sincerely for your consideration,

I am already working an issue within the house membership of the Congressional Motorsports caucus, so this is right up my alley.

I've tried to invite everyone who is already actively working to save the auto industry, but there are other activists out there. If you know of someone else on this site, send them an invite to this group! If we get big enough, we may be able to form a legitimate interest group!

I have and continue to do my part. I have written to Congressional officials here in St. Louis a few weeks back. I received the typical "form letter" from both Todd Akin and Claire McCaskill. (No surprise there!)
The next opportunity will be mid-week when a family member will be having lunch with Congressman Blunt, the Republican Whip, to discuss this and other topics.
From what I've been told, the "Big 3" will need to come to the table with a very compelling story regarding re-structuring in order to get support from Republicans prior to Pres-elect Obama taking office. Bush does not support any help for the industry.
It will take a "grass-roots" approach from a significant portion of the population to get any movement on this. GM, Ford, and Chrysler surely understand this but I've yet to come across any organized efforts other than the "petition" that was circulating a week or so ago.
Anything else ?

I am all for helping! I have emailed my congresspeople and will continue to support the auto industry
GM has been kind to us over the years and it's time to return the favor!
