Concept 2020 - Camaro or Mustang?

(TO THE MODS: Since there isn't a category yet for concepts beyond 2016 I put this in here.)

I figure by now the 2016 Camaro is probably already designed. SOoo... just to start the new year off with a bang, here's my concept idea for 2020. However, now that I'm this far into it I realized it may actually work better as a Mustang. So I'd like to see what people think before I put anymore work into it.

Now before we get to the pictures I'll get the obvious reactions out of the way:

OMG IT LOOKS LIKE A VETTE!! A DODGE!! A FERRARI!! A MCLAREN!! A PINTO!! AN '83 BUICK!! MY TRUCK!!! Dude, WHAT were you THINKING!!???

Yes yes... I'm guilty. I deliberately designed it to look just like... a car...

Soooooo..... what do you guys (or gals) think? Does this style work as a Camaro or does it work better as a Mustang?

Here's the original concept side view drawing I started with:

With my previous 2016 concept I spent most of my time on the front and back and struggled with the side. This time I put most of my effort into the side and profile views. I took all the comments made in that previous concept thread and put them to use; more curves, more side detail, less square and boxy, etc. I also noticed a LOT of people really like the retro/heritage look so for this concept (at the moment anyways) I went with clearly identifiable styling elements for the front and back. I may change that up as I spend more time with it. This is a pure design with a fairly sophisticated styling on the sides. I didn't want anything frivolous but at the same time I didn't want it too plain.

This design concept seems to work better with bright colors I've noticed. The dark colors don't do so well on this shape.

The Camaro front is pure retro/heritage but that too may change:

Name: Concept 2020 Camaro4.jpg
Views: 5409
Size: 63.9 KB

I actually haven't put a lot of time into the front or back yet and there's detail and finishing work that needs to be done all over the place. This whole thing went from flat 2d drawing to what you see now in about 4 days; compare that to the 2 months it took me to get the 2016 concept together! Nothing like practice and knowing what you're doing!!

This design isn't "spacey" or gimmicky; it's intended to be a pure styling concept that's elegant, beautiful, classy and clean. If the consensus is this doesn't work as a Camaro, I'll make it a Mustang. I already have an idea for the front. If the majority like this as a Camaro, then too bad for the Ford crowd.

So whatchyall think?

I realize these posts were made near midnight on New Year's Eve but I had no idea that beer goggles could distort images that much! At any rate, I'm seeing 3 votes for a Mustang so far.....

On behalf of all Mustang owners everywhere, I will vote No friggin way.
Those slab sides and sharp edges also makes it not a Camaro.
The long hood and short deck of a Pony car is totally missing. It looks like a rear engine design.
Try the Dodge boys. They like slab sides.

Don't vette the back window. Make it longer higher in the back and then drop down. The side line reminds me of the current charger.

Sorry, bro. I am not feeling it. Has a vintage look to it and not in a good way. That Porche pic is dead on.

Amazing how many people just react to pictures and don't/can't/won't read. It's a work-in-progress as should have been evident by what I wrote. People say they like/want retro/vintage, then complain because it looks retro/vintage. Whatever.

For the uneducated and unwashed here are a few pix and the reason as to why I was thinking this might work better as a Mustang.

Original P-51D; note the canopy style and compare that to the side view.

Name: Concept 2020 Camaro Original Drawing.jpg
Views: 3735

As for the side profile not having a long front and short back, look at the original Mustang; mine actually has a shorter back so this is not that proportionally different.

Name: ford_mustang_1964_rot_6.jpg
Views: 3720
Size: 78.8 KB

And for those complaining that the sides are too flat, that was part of the original Mustang style:

Name: ford_mustang_1964_rot_l.jpg
Views: 3729
Size: 57.3 KB

I'm still shaping and refining things.

Size: 53.4 KB
Name: Concept 2020 Camaro Alt1b.jpg

If you're going to comment, please read, think and act rather than just look and react. It's like someone house shopping and walking into a room and saying "I don't like the color", versus someone walking in and saying "It needs paint." It's the difference between just complaining, as opposed to seeing what can be; what it can become. Make your comments constructive otherwise they're utterly useless to the creative process.

(Thank you 45thCamaro and 45thAnniversary2SS for taking the time to read my original post and responding accordingly!)

Sorry if you don't like that I don't like your design but IMHO it just looks like garbage and if anything it looks like you are just trying to make a video game version of a ferrari.

Doc, I'm afraid that you might be utilizing an inferior testing ground to get good feedback on your design. Though you preface your post on what to expect, the large majority of people will gleen through your post just to get to the picture and then respond accordingly. As you well know, designs are meant to provoke a reaction, though probably not what you are looking for with this particular one.

I think it's great that you are utilizing you're other and newfound skills, but like anything else one needs to excel in or get better...the more in touch you are with you're audience, the better you can serve them. You certainly have exceptional skills at understanding automotive designs and at learning new skills to translate them to CAD. I enjoy seeing you're projects.

I'm not feeling it at all. The nose design leads me to believe that this car would get airborne at around 90mph.

You have mid engine proportions in your design.

You have too much Corvette/old Camaro hatch glass on top of those proportions.

I think your sharp features on the side are putting everyone off. It does look Dodge like to me also.

I appreciate the effort. I drew cars years ago and did not have any more technology than a pencil and paper.

Check your proportions if you are going after the Pony car.

If you are going after a Super car look then get rid of the hatch glass. GM did on the C5 Camaro and C7 Corvette.

Don't get discouraged. If you didn't know it, it took guts to put your design up for critique.

Holy crap

I'm shocked by everyone's comments. But then again I'm sure everyone could do so much better on their own

Hey it's much better than I could ever do so just keep at it. Can you try putting the new Camaro '14 tail lights on it? Also, maybe try the gills from the '69 and 5th Gen to tie it into the Camaro heritage.

I think it's really cool that you are looking forward to what may come and as you stated the '16 is most likely already in the file as far as GM is concerned. And, who says the '20 might not be mid-engined? Keep the images coming, not all of us are going to leave rude comments and shoot down what you are trying.
