Interesting that Ford is apparently telling people now that Europe will be a getting a 4-cylinder Mustang but the U.S. won't.

Not sure if anything is really set in stone at this point, but if the next Mustang continues with a base 300+ hp V6, GM might be tempted to follow suit. Or not. Never thought they'd be building 4-banger Impalas.

Now, Road & Track is saying that the new Mustang will indeed get a 4-cylinder turbo in the U.S., but it will be positioned as an *upgrade* to the V6, so who the hell knows...

In the U.S., the Mustang is the Camaro's major competitor, so the powertrain options in each vehicle obviously influence each other.

I suspect that GM's current love affair with 4-bangers will indeed extend to the next Camaro... but I do agree with those here don't see a lot of demand for a 4-cylinder Camaro. Camaro buyers seem pretty happy with V6/V8 options, so why mess with success?

On the other hand, I look at what they've done with the new Impala... replacing the base V6 with the sluggish 2.5 four... and jacking up the price. Of course, maybe that's not a good comparison, as perhaps GM thinks Impala buyers are unconcerned with performance.

I had NO IDEA they did this. I just assumed a car that large would have a V6. That thing must be a boat anchor.

Yeah, I don't get why GM has to be a slave to what the Mustang may or may not do...Camaro has out sold them every year...For all those years why hasn't Ford said "We gotta do what Chevy is...just sell v-8s and v-6's"...?

I think Chevy could blow Ford and Mustang out of the water if more perfomance type v-8s and 6's were offered, instead of going to 4's, because, well, that's what Ford is gonna do...

It's awd turbo wrc rally car that's as quick as a zl1.
So it's no toy. I'm not gonna argue, it's just showing what a real 4 banger can do.
Think regal gs wanna be grand national, why bother. ?

A nice turbo 6 Regal GS/Grand National would be great for the brand, fighting the German brands and such. They can't do it all with Caddy. $40k "luxury" car, make CTS etc more exclusive

They should remake a real GN, but Buick obviously doesn't see it,
Cts v because a regular cts is blah.
It's like buying a Benz/BMW without getting Amg or m model, why bother.

...whats really funny going on here tonight is I wrote two posts <both on the same page, one to replace the other that dissapeared> taking me 15 minutes and both majically were eliminated, ala dissapeared, not by my hand...but by some power other than me, it's happened before, and it's BS, whoever is doing this, knock it off....

Posers, thats why. Same as the current 6 cylinder. People just want to have the 'status' rather than the rest of the package. I don't mind, that's why they look different.

This does not apply to turbo'd 6's.
