I've been thinking about this, and a true ZL1 clone would take some serious work. You'd have to buy a ZL1 hood, which includes carbon fiber and is prohibitively expensive; a front fascia, which people have been doing on all trims; a different spoiler; a different diffuser with a quad-tipped exhaust; different wheels; and then you'd still have to do the performance upgrades to complete the clone. To make a poser ZL1 would be some serious work. I know the fascia is the most noticeable attribute of the ZL1, but all of that other work would still be missing. Even if someone went with hydrocarbon instead of carbon fiber, the obviousness of clone would render it pointlessly expensive and would fail to fool discriminating enthusiasts.

Ya, and I agree with you in some ways. We don't comb our hair and get dressed up to not be noticed.

Hell, if you do all of THAT work I say you earned the right to pose.

And the badges, don't forget the badges. Which by the way has always been a part of serious clone efforts.

You could probably buy those from someone who debadged to be more of a sleeper.

Why wait? Put a V6 bumper on it and slap on some RS badges. If you swap for some halogens, non-RS tails, and heritage wheels, you'd really scare some people.

Lambos have been cloned in kit cars for years, as have Ferrari, Porsche, Aston Martins and many other high priced exotic cars.

Not everyone can afford the high end model, and as I recall "Imitation is the highest form of flattery"

So who gives a rats ass if they put a fascia on it..

-------

Now if they are upbadging a base or SS with ZL-1 badging, yes I will agree that is in poor taste, but the only person they are embarrassing is themselves.

Personally I think everyone needs to stop worrying about what other people do and start to look a whole lot harder at themselves. Why is it anyone's business how someone else decides to modify THEIR car that THEY paid for.

Now, if you want to fork over some cheddar for my mods I will be more than happy to let you decide what I can and can't do.. But until that happens.. Mind your own business.

---

And for the record, I would never put ZL-1 parts on my SS, but I won't mock those that do.

lastly I didn't read the whole thread, only the first page, so if I am repeating thoughts and sentiments already conveyed, sorry.
I respect your maturity when dealing with people who have mods that you find unappealing.

The OP acts like crying baby.

I'm not the one acting like a tough guy over a desktop and a keyboard. You've failed to address my previous post in regards to your stupidity. In addition to the fact that your just a waste of time. You know where to find me and i'm easily approachable. If all your going to do is make comments regarding me being a cry baby and whatever else you can think of go find a different path to follow. I'll be at CF4, and local meets, so by all means introduce yourself I'm easy to find. Attempting to belittle me as a man is something I wouldn't personally do, but hey feel free and see where that leads...

There is a double standard out there where people see no problem with making a car look like a lesser model but its a cardinal sin to make a lesser model look like a upper model. I say to each his own. If you like the looks of something and can adopt that look then go for it. Myself I like certain aspects of the ZL1 looks but not others, so I pick what I like. GM did the same thing with the 1LE and the Hot Wheels Camaros, using parts from the ZL1, I don't think anyone should get upset for people changing the looks of their car to reflect their tastes.

Every place has a hood if you really want to go there. Everything can be solved over hot tea, so whose to say I wasn't offering him a cup? Just saying.

I think it's just rude of Slammed that he hasn't invited you to meet with him anywhere...who knows, a hot game of tiddly-winks at the place of his choosing could resolve the issue...lol

He edited his thread. He realized a mod could see it.

OP, you did not like your original threat of violence towards me or just scared you will get banned?

I feel your pain, OP.

Personally, I do not even wear my Rolex anymore because of the rampant proliferation of knock-offs that any poor person could afford. The final straw came when someone complimented my watch, but then asked if it was real. I just wanted to crawl into a hole and die.

Then, just the other night, while the wife and I were waiting for our usual table at Smith & Wollensky's, a woman, clearly a commoner (upper middle class at best), came in and stood next to us carrying what was obviously a counterfiet Prada bag. Needless to say the wife, carrying a real one, was embarassed beyond words and could only be placated with a buying spree at Tiffany's.

So yes, when regular people try to pretend they are us it is upsetting. Most people on this forum won't get that, but I've got your back.
Still my favorite post on this thread.
