My 2SS/RS is now 10 years old, with just 37,000 miles on it. I've used my Range Device nearly every time I've driven it. No problems with anything at all so far. Other than removing the "cans" on the exhaust, it's pure stock.
Similar to my scenario - 9 years w/ 38,000 smiles. I have a slight tick when cold but it sounds more like injectors to me as opposed to something deeper in the engine. Funny though, until I started reading about it, it was quiet.

Well your only at 38k miles though. Me and one other guy on here only have heavy miles on ours over 150k miles. You might think differently when you get up where we are and have a loud tap, tap, tap.

People on YT talk about 30-60K being the sweet (failure) spot.

Edit: actually, a few talk about right after the drivetrain warranty of 60K being a great place too. But I'm not hearing that here.

I had the AFM tuned-out fairly early on but I've logged 181k miles of daily driving without issue.

I'm closing the books on AFM lifters being the 'biggest disaster in GM history.' 18 posts with a few ticking issues. And lots of good stuff. No one walking around dealers in sandwich boards while their car sits in a service bay waiting on, the "$10,000 AFM rebuilt engine fail", no one winning in a class action suit and no one pushed their Camaro over a cliff.

Thanks, folks.

My early stock '10 2SS L99 has never had an engine problem or lifter noise Ever.
72,000 miles now. I believed in changing the oil often on all my collector cars as
well as this SS. I just changed it again for the 20th time in almost 15 years. I've
found that the only people complaining about L99 are guys that have never owned
one.

I've honestly lost count on oil changes but it's only seen less than 50% once. Estimating roughly 6 months to get to 50% and I'm at about 18 changes since 2015. It may not be the reason, but I believe that there's a correlation to oil maintenance and lack of trouble. That's about every 2100 miles. I know, it's a sickness!😂

So, bottom line my A6 Camaro brethren, is the PLETHORA of negative internet chatter overblown click bait? Is it a relatively rare issue if you keep good, clean oil in the crankcase?

What has been your experience? I'm at 38K on a 2015 SS with AFM tuned out for several years and so far...NO issues.
Some have issues. Some don’t. I can tell you that my 2014 Sierra 5.3L with 8:4 deactivation AFM has 180k and not one lifter collapse. (Knock on wood) I’m hoping to get 250k-300k out it. Transmission 6L80 is comeplete junk. I replaced at 120k. Granted I’ve put that truck through the paces for hours. I’ve driven a 20hr trip in 16hrs at max speed. I like it. I’d never buy anything newer though. Plannned obsolescence is in every major car manufacturer these days.

My oil life has read less than 10% enough times to get me banned from this forum. I just stay light on the gas and I will put a half of a quart of oil in to hold me over until I can change it.

13K-ish on the 2010 L99, no problems yet.

The oil gets changed regularly, but time gets it before mileage.

I did have a co-worker who bought a then-new 2012 Chevy truck with the 6.2 with DoD and he knew nothing about cars, so he let the dealership do all his oil changes and maintenance. He was a QC manager, so he was diligent in taking it in for regular checkups.

I told him after the warranty period was up to get a tune to get rid of DoD. He didn't get it tuned. Then, about 40K miles into ownership and after the warranty period of course, the valve train took a crap on him causing engine damage. He got it rebuilt by the dealership, naturally, and then got a tune to get rid of DoD and as far as I know, he never had a problem the rest of the time he owned the truck.

As far as wide-spread DoD engine issues, I'm not aware of any more except for the ones reporting them here.

Here's some more info I found about what causes the AFM/DOD lifters to fail.
