Rear OEM Tires About Gone. What Next?

At 20,000 commuter miles on my 2016 2SS, it's time for new rear tires. Fronts still look pretty good. My dilemma: Stay OEM or not? The stock Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3s have felt awesome, even if the wear isn't the best. I like the look of the tread, as well. But the darn things are $369 each. Before I lay down in excess of $800 for the installation of TWO tires, is there anything out there that looks and performs the same for less money? I was overwhelmed looking at all the choices online.

I know people mix and match tires all the time: but it's not a good idea. Especially if you're going to play around with the car they way they built it to be. All the electronics expect the same slip factors/traction at all four corners...

For that, and other reasons, I'm a big fan of sticking with the same 4 tires at any one time. Maybe get a set of rears, so maybe by the time they wear down the fronts will do the same...and then look at a new tire all around?

Of course it won't be the end of the world - but I wanted to put that out there.

That actually makes a good deal of sense to me. Thanks!

Same issue here but add a nail that went in outside of the repairable area of the tire. Laid down the 800 bucks to buy two rears (there is a newer model of the Asymmetric 3 with a higher treadlife rating) and will stick with them for now.

Bridgestone Potenza RE-71R gets my vote. Seems to be the hjottest tire out there. Even better Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2, if you believe the Porsche and Corvette guys.

Oh, probably. I saw the "anything out there that looks and performs the same for less money" part. Missed the "20k commuter miles" part.

Of course, it all depends on your definition of "commute". I drive 20 miles per day to/from work. I do . . . maybe . . . 1 track day per year. But I still want the stickiest tires!

My A3s only lasted 10k miles, are hard as rocks, and are almost completely bald.

Correct. I don't track the car at all, but I do take advantage of its high performance.
