This is the kicker folks.

I would have a hard time believing that adding AWD to the car wouldn't end up affecting even the 2wd versions in some way, be it added weight, or added cost overall. Maybe I'm wrong, and if so, then I don't have a real problem with it.

Otherwise No.

I guess I wouldn't be opposed to it as long it was an option and didn't drive up the cost and weight of the rear drive version. I drive my Camaro in the winter and I still don't think I'd buy an AWD version. Not because of heritage or what I think a Camaro should be, but because the Camaro is heavy and expensive enough as it is. It also does really well in the snow with snow tires.

I don't know who they would really be targeting with this option. Could it make the lap times faster even with the added weight? Is this targeting Z/28 and ZL1 types who want maximum performance? Are they targeting people who drive their Camaros in the snow or feel they need AWD to drive in the rain? Most of those people are probably going to be in 4 cylinder or 6 cylinder versions and probably won't want to pay a big premium for AWD. I just don't see it selling very well on a Camaro.

Again, they already ditched the idea once for good reason....Put this all wheel drive turkey in some line other than Camaro....It wasn't good enough for Cadillac, why dump it on Camaro...?

From the article: "... all-wheel drive was already considered for the 2016 Cadillac ATS-V as an option, but dropped in the name of weight savings. And both the ATS-V and Camaro ride on the Alpha platform, which gives us a feeling it may have been looked at once before....."

This is how you kill a car. First, you add a 4 cylinder engine option. People say great, but why isn't there an AWD version? I want to drive it year round. Then they add an AWD option. Then people say great, but why doesn't it have 4 doors? I want extra room for my family. Then they add 4 doors. And now we have a car that isn't a camaro. Look at how all the 2 door SUVs died. K5, S10. 2 doors, then they offered them with 4 doors, and now what was the S10 blazer is the Equinox. For sure, I'm using the "slippery slope" logical fallacy, so discredit me if you want, but I'd hate to see the death of the camaro as we know it, a RWD coupe.

Edit:

If they're going to add AWD to anything, it should be the Cruze / Malibu / Impala.

You can get AWD with either the 2.0T or 3.6L in the ATS, so Cadillac didn't say it wasn't good enough for them. You just can't get it in the ATS-V.

+1, and it's only a $2000 option on the sedan to opt for AWD...

There is a complete 2015 ATS LTG engine/trans/tcase/front diff&axles drop out on ebay right now for $3500 w/ 1k miles on it... Let's just say, the awd thought had already crossed my mind. ebay link to auction

It doesn't really look that complex, and as I mentioned not that expensive. I could see it happening for the 2.0T and 3.6 possibly, but the SS would be the big issue, you'd have to probably beef up the tcase, front diff and axles, which would cost more, and might run out of space due to size...

Can't say that I'd run out an go for the AWD option... But it would make for some killer 60' times at the strip.

I wouldn't get an AWD Camaro so I don't want the weight penalty of having an AWD capable chassis.

I would definitely buy an AWD Camaro if they offered it in a hi-perf model. I've been holding out for a CTS-V AWD which doesn't look like it's ever going to happen, so this would be a great option.

I would buy in a heartbeat, I get it, muscle cars are traditionally RWD, but the LT1 engine with an AWD configuration would make it an absolute beast of a car. Not to mention being able to get out of trouble for us that get snow.

Where does the thread say GM is asking for opinions? They don't mention anything like that. It looks like just another fun poll thread to me. I went ahead and voted no though, unlike the dummies that couldn't make up their minds.
