My local Discount Tire buggered up my wheels...I was pretty darn sad.

Scratching rims

I had a Firestone mount my new rear Bridgestone S0-4 pole position,280 treadwear,255/45/18's and the shop has had the same mgr. for many years. They do a good job & are careful. I don't know what make of tire changing equipment they now use and will stop in and see, great post. Look out for the Mustangs!

My local dealer. I'd never take these to a tire shop.

Find the shop that sells aftermarket rims. I found that if you ask the recommended Tire Rack installer they will tell you 20" rims and low profile tires scare them and they will tell you who can handle those combinations.

I do my own. After a tire jockey chipped a wheel, I vowed to get my own equipment. I managed to find some decent stuff used and now I can do my own and have made many new "friends". So far the equipment has paid for itself! A little TLC on the used stuff and taking my time I've never marked a wheel! I did however send a tire pressure monitor flying across the garage once. I hate those things!

lots of great advice, thanks for the suggestions. My dealership won't mount tires the don't sell you; they say it's because they can't replace the tire if they damage it.

I would assume the closeout tires have been sitting around for a while and the more expensive tires are new production

im a former auto tech, take a gander over to the ctsv forum. you can see how i mounted and balanced my wheels using a machine not made to handle a higher end style wheel. it can be done it takes great handling and care to do so.

http://www.ctsvowners.com/forum/10-w...tire-swap.html

the reality is, you need to find a wheel and tire installer that uses a touch less based tire mounter. these machines usually made by hunter are north of 20k where as the machine setup i used to do my ctsv wheel probably 4-5k. usually the places who have these machines work on super high end wheels and tires. i actually have a shop nearby to me that works on lambos and ferraris where they can't afford to damage a rim.
do your homework.

Just switched out the F1's for the Continental DWS all-season rad, same size as OEM. $935.00 mounted, balanced and tax. I purchased these at one of the local tire dealers in my area. Also, the employees at these places are prob not as important as what tire mounting and balancing equipment they use.

I'd go with better employees>better equipment.

Someone who doesn't give a **** with the best equipment still won't do a good job.

The first thing you should do is to call Rudy, extension 4664, at Tire Rack.
He will have, or can quickly get, an answer to all your questions.
Next, go check out the tire installers in your area. Ask about their
equipment, their experience with larger tire sizes and expensive wheels
and ask them for some recommendations from their
customers. You will find that the better installers all are happy
to work with tires shipped in from Tire Rack.
Good Luck.
