The Viper ACR, Corvette Z06 and 488 GTB all beat the GT350 time wise. |

I know that, but this competition was for "Performance Car of the Year." These are primarily cars developed around the road course so I would think you would pick the car that is capable of the most impressive performance matrices, which would go to the Viper or maybe Z06.

I think cost may come into account as well, who knows I didn't read this years whole article yet. As far as really track focused cars go the Viper ACR and Mustang GT350R are probably the most focused. The others are more street set up cars that happen to excel on the track too, especially the Corvette Z06 and 488 GTB.
****Lets also remember, that to be a great performance car doesn't necessarily mean it needs to be the quickest/fastest. There is more to it then that... Last edited by SS 1LE; 11-09-2015 at 03:49 PM. |

In that respect, this feels very much like the Driver's car competition to me, and that's fine.

Congrats to ford I always love seeing a American Muscle car perform so well. I still remember when people would say "muscle cars can't handle".
Also tired of people saying cars are to heavy, look at that Bently pulling a 11.6 at almost 5000 pounds!

I was lucky enough to take the GT350R around Lime Rock. It does sound amazing but honestly didn't feel that it accelerated any faster than my Boss 302. Then I hit the brakes. Amazing! I actually came up short on the first corner. By the third corner the grip was impressing me as much as the brakes. The sound? Without the resonators it was hair raising. Frankly the car felt Porsche GT3 quick around a track so I'm happy to see this win. And like any car fan, I can't wait to see the next Z/28 and/or ZL1.

I respectfully disagree. If they were voting on race car of the year, I'd say give the win to the Viper. Or fastest car of the year, then by all means the Fezza. But performance is a large envelope and the description of how the GT350R is the best bits of several of the other cars sums up perfectly why this is a deserving performance car of the year winner.

You'll love it. Funnily enough though I don't think I'll be buying one. At least not while the CDN dollar puts it on par with a used Aston Martin.

Power can overcome weight, but you can't overcome how weight feels when driven hard or tracked. I am super glad the 6th gen lost weight, it needed it. |

the one thing I find interesting is it laps right in line with the AMG GT S and so does the z28 depending on the track.
So now that the bottom has fallen out of the z28 and you can grab them for 50k basically new is a 67k car that is hard to find worth it???? I think I am still going to pick up a GT350 but I can't find an R even at MSRP which is really high.

Great job by ford. The 350R sounds like a pretty sweet track car. Sounds amazing as well. But I am a hard core GM guy and can't wait to see what GM comes up with to battle the 350R.
