That is basically what my Escort 9500ci does (No Oil slick/smokescreen though!!).

It also jams laser quite well. If I'm not mistaken, I believe RADAR JAMMERS are illegal in every state, but LASER JAMMERS are allowed in several states, Maryland being one of them. Forgot why.

I wonder what Va would do if I was caught with mine on. It is integrated into the car (Not portable; not sitting on a dash). I still would most likely turn it off there.

Disagree on that tactic. Do you really want a cop to see you suspiciously moving things around in your car?

I have a detector in my car b/c of all the mobile speed cameras around MD.

I remember trying to order one in the 90's and they wouldn't ship to CA. Since then I've been under the impression... I've still also have had a Radar Detector on every vehicle I've owned except that run when I had a 1976 Toyota 5-speed. That thing was dependable and anything else, but fast lol... so I didn't need one.

I took a job just across the state line recently, so I drive into Virginia pretty much daily. I admit to being a habitual 5-10 over speeder most of the time, but as soon as I cross the line I'm on my best behavior. Don't even bother with my radar detector anymore since I'm afraid I might forget to take it down... They mean business

From asking my neighbor in the past who is a sergeant for the PD here in VA, the Radar Detector detectors are not in every car because of cost. But what they do have are simple techniques using radar equipment, letting you pass then using instant on radar and watching you hit the brakes, and the dreaded fixed wing planes and helicopters to time/distance your vehicle. So in essence they can make your detector an expensive paper weight.

I can't believe people pay good money for a radar detector.

100% accurate. I would be more concerned with getting thrown in jail for going 80MPH than getting caught with a radar detector.

If it saves you from a single ticket it has already paid for itself in the fines and/or attorney fees you would have paid. Not to mention the amount your insurance would go up. It really is just added peace of mind.

Another thing that has been pointed out is that you could be in a pack of cars and not actually speeding and still get popped. The reason for this is that the cop has to make a judgment call on which car was speeding. If you are driving a Camaro he is probably going to assume it was you.
