How many degrees is the operating range on a VVT setup?

Looks like 52 degrees of range stock from what I've been able to find. If you're running an aftermarket VVT cam most require the phase limiter from Comp Cams that I believe is 20 degrees. The phase limiter allows you to run a higher lift can without burying a valve into the top of a piston.

Here's a good article from Hot Rod on VVT.

So the LS3 gets the GG tax? I didn't notice the breakdown when I looked at the difference in my L99 and the LS3.

Is the AFM what is keeping it a little sluggish in the real low rpms just cruising around? I tend to keep it in Sport and then manual to keep the rpms up and I guess out of AFM. My Accord had afm, and it had a light on the dash that lit when it was active.
You can feel it in the 2SS as well.

So if you keep the RPMs up does that stop AFM, except when cruising interstate. I am not too worried about it there.

LS3 with manual got good enough mileage to avoid GG tax. L99 with auto did not. Therefore, DoD (aka AFM) was part of the package with L99.

No GG tax on either.

Before my car was tuned, the only way not to have AFM working was to use the paddle shifters. Using them gets old fast. From your post it sounds like AFM is starting to get on your last nerve. Best mod a person can do to an L99 A6 is to get a tune. I would not even consider one of those devices that plugs into the OBD II port, too many glitches.

Same here. I checked a fleet owner before I ordered my L99 SS. Was told the
same thing- Very reliable engine. There's a lot of anti auto/AMF hype here.
My 6 year old, 38,000 mile Camaro has been trouble free and I hardly
noticed the AFM before or after I installed my Solo exhaust.

Ok, that is what I thought the GG Tax document said. It didn't apply the tax until you got the ZL1 or the Z28. But reading here it looked like the LS3 did get it.

Yeah I have been using the paddle shifters a good bit. It doesn't bother me at all. I like getting the RPMs up a little bit more before shifting and cruising in 3rd or 4th to keep the RPMS around 2500-3000. I don't like the bogged down feeling.

I didn't sense it as much on the 2LT, since i guess it isn't as big of a drop from 6 to 4?

No AFM on a V6. AFM on a SS Camaro sucks eggs and that's a fact. The L99 being a reliable strong engine is even more of a reason to tune it. I bought my car new and tuned it with in 3 months. AFM was making me hate the car. After the tune it was like night and day.

That would explain why I didn't notice it on the 2LT. I thought it had it like my Accord did. The accord you couldn't feel it as much.

I will probably have a tune on the list of things to do to it.

I run a Range AFM Delete on mine. I have had a glitch or two but they are rare. Just unplug and wait a couple minutes and away you go....With it plugged in it is a whole different car and won't void the warranty like a tune can. Just my $0.02.
