Are transmission problems common on these?
Heya Guys - I'm in the market for a low mileage Z28, and actually ordered one with 2K original miles from Carvana (don't judge me, single owner looked mint).
When the car arrived it kept grinding going into 1st when you were coming to a stop. I drove it around 15 mins to put some heat in it and it still kept grinding when you slowed down going to first (likely 1st gear synchronizers). I let them take it back and passed on it. I noticed when I was carfaxing a few others across the US that I'm looking at there two others had their transmissions replaced @ 5k miles and one at 7k miles. Is this a fluke or is it common to have transmission issues on these Z28s? I've had a few LSs and rebuilt a trans in my 03 Z06 (keepers got stuck) but I didn't think this tremec had any issues on these guys. Thanks, Mike |

I can't say I've ever had a grinding issue.

It's not normal for a tremec to do this, your 1st gear synchronizers are likely worn and need to be replaced.

Mine has done that a few times in 5 years. Rare when it happens but it tends to grind if I put in in 1st when rolling. I learned to only put it in 1st when at a stop and lived with it. Car seems normal otherwise.

Might be a dumb comment, but could the clutch fluid be low or is there somehow air in the line? Might be worth a look. This isn’t a common problem at all

This is exactly what I meant do should’ve said . My trans is fine. I should also have added that anyone’s tr6060 while rolling at a speed to fast to for your 1st gear synchro’s to catch up will grind if I’m making any sense here. Maybe I misunderstood his post.

Downshift to first quite a lot and have had no real problems. Rev matching is your friend!

I’ve never shifted a car into 1st before coming to a stop.
I was taught NEVER to do that and I’ve never heard of anyone doing that. Not being harsh, just giving you thoughts… As my mom taught me back in 8th grade teaching me to drive our 1980 mustang back home from baseball practice (I’m 54 now) . Coming to a stop: -Keep in any gear, let the car slow itself down in gear and push clutch in prior to stopping so she won’t stall. Shift to neutral, let clutch out (foot on brake) chill. -If you want to downshift coming to a stop, do it , but appropriate gear for speed you’re going. Maybe second gear as you’re coming to a stop(using motor to slow car down) push clutch in and follow procedure in the previous listed step. I can give you my moms number if you want. She’s still a pretty good driver at 78. She hasn’t driven my Z, but still drives my 79 Porsche 928 pretty good… Giving you a hard time.. have fun, it’s a great car!! |

I have never faced such a type of issue. So I have just worn it, and need to be replaced as soon as possible. Regards Bhavishh |
