Help With Mods
Hey guys. Cars a 17 ZL1 A10. Spent this weekend at Cars and coffee. Rode down the interstate with a Ferrari 458 Italia, 17 viper with the nardley wing, Mercedes gullwing and a turbo Porsche. All of the cars had a hard time keeping up. It was fun to beat on a group of super cars. They are all very good friends of mine and couldn’t believe I bought the Camaro over my normal purchases which are usually the vette. Anyways ide still like a little more power. Maybe 800 or so. The only thing I don’t think I’m willing to give up is noise. I like that when it’s just the wife and I we can hold a conversation In the car if I stay out of it. Is there an exhaust system that offers a gain over the stock one but doesn’t compromise daily driving noise. I’m ok if it’s loud when I’m driving like a raped ape just want it somewhat tame when I’m not. Any help on mods and exhaust are much appreciated and thanks in advance.

I would start with a CAI, ported throttle body (Tony Mamo, Katech, VMAX), lower pulley setup and long tubes into Kooks green cats. That is my $.02. I'm sure others will give you some solid input. Personally I do not plan to get rid of the stock NPP (there are aftermarket versions out). After you get bored with this you can start looking at porting the stock supercharger or going with a Whipple.
I plan to push mine to 900+ rwhp. I'm saving up for my mods so I can do it all at once. |

I did throttle body intake long tubes and no cats. Huge difference in power.

Not sure you'll get anywhere near 800 in a mild mannered sounding ZL1.

Maybe 800 crank you can do and keep the manners in check. I'd say FBO with pulleys should get you there. Especially if you do a pulley swap.

Just ordered my Kook's LT's. Already Roto Fab intake and Tony Mamo TB. Can't decide to wait on my normal tuner to recover from shoulder surgery or drive to the ATL to Vengeance racing for the tune.

Do a whipple and e85 and that should get you to 800 at the crank pretty easily I would think and the car would still sound stock.

I live in Fort Lauderdale and have just finished doing 2" Amercian racing Headers, Roto-Fab cold air and Lingnefelter 9.17 lower pulley. the car made 654 hp and 663 tq to the ground. its absolutely identical to the factory driveability. the sound is only different under wide open throttle. when in touring mode it is identical to factory trim. for reference, i have a 2016 AMG GTS that Renntech did their R1 package on and the Camaro destroys it on the highway.

I'd start with 18% lower, your Kooks LTs, Roto-fab, ported throttle body, send your blower out to get ported (Katech, Fasterproms, etc.), and tune and see where your car ends up. My guess is around 640 RWHP which should be around 750 crank HP. If you want 800 HP crank then you'll likely need E85/Meth, probably a Cam, and maybe more. Or you could wait a little bit until the TVS2650 comes out or you can forge a path with the 2.9 Whipple. So far the results on the Whipple aren't very good for just bolting it on on a stock engine (Gains of 20-30 HP). |
