I know the 1LE is extremely good around the track but exactly how much better is one vs a non 1Le? I feel like it kind of overshadowing the normal SS and no one talks about the base SS around the track.

We had a rental SS at Chuckwalla and my best was a 2:04 with a pasenger and not setting tire pressures...my guess that when my SS 1LE was completely stock, easily 6 seconds a lap faster....

No, the standard SS comes with a traditional (mechanical) LSD, only the 1LE comes with the electronic diff.

It depends on your driving skills. For most people a regular Camaro is totally fine on a racetrack if you do racetrack trainings or stints like 1-2 times a year. But if you know what you are doing the 1LE is way more capable. The tires and suspension upgrades easily give multiple seconds advantage. But you have to ask yourself if it that actually matters.


If you drive the car daily I wouldn't want a 1LE because how hard it is dampened and how fast the expensive tires wear

1LEs brakes are far superior to the standard SS for track duty. I'd recommend a brake fluid change on both models prior to track use though.

I think this is the biggest difference functionally. I met someone tracking an airport rental Camaro SS at MSR Houston a few years ago and they ran out of front brake pads before the weekend was over. I have never come close to using a whole set of stock front brake pads in 2 days at that track in my SS 1LE with the stock 220 treadwear Goodyear Supercar 3 tires. Although if they had bought and installed the plastic track cooling air deflectors it might have helped a bit.

You could buy and install the 1LE suspension kit and 220tw tires on a regular SS and probably get close to SS 1LE lap times but the stock brakes probably would not be able to handle the usual 20+ minute sessions of fast laps found at most HPDE events without excessive front pad wear.

And if you pay for both the GMPP 6 piston front brake upgrade and the 1LE suspension upgrade on an SS, you're probably better off just getting an SS 1LE instead at that point.

last time i was there i did a 2:01 in my modded ss but i have a ton of mods now lol i always say if i can keep up with stock 1le guys i feel pretty good sometimes i even beat them
