Change is good. Technology is a great thing that has made all our lives easier. But when it is forced upon us before it is economicaly viable I must disagree wth it. This is tearing the country apart and hurting the people most who can not aford it. Plus spending our hard earned tax dollars just to try to advance a technology is also wrong. Most of these so called green technologys are not possable with out government subsities. Until we can advance green energys technology to the point where there can be a profit in it we are shooting ourselves in the foot. Let technology advance at it's own pace and we can all be happy.

Hell yea I totally agree their. When good ole American Ingenuity and technology figures out a way to truly figure something more stable, reliable, and economically viable than oil I’ll be all for it. Until then stop forcing that stuff down my throat.

The mileage really isn't any better in the V6, not enough to use as an excuse for it (I pushed 26mpg on the highway in my 2012 2SS I had a number of years ago), but being able to use 87 might come in handy lol

Agree with the, ‘until we figure something out’ part. We’d be burning candles for light in CA if 30 million people drove EV’s at the moment. And they all needed daily charging. We struggle with our ‘green energy’ during peak demand now simply because the sun doesn’t shine at night. How brilliant was that plan?

I would also speculate that CA would hate giving up its HIGHLY PROFITABLE designer gas anytime soon too.

if gas climbs much above 5 bucks a gallon my wifes civic will get more driving time.its averaging 35 in the city and more than 40 on the highway.overall im quite happy with the 6,only issue i have had is with those that think i "settled for less".why would i pay 10k more for the V8 when i cant even open up the 6 in the traffic we have around here?

That's a funny statement right there! Both the LS3 and the LFX were designed to operate on 87 octane fuel. If either were to require premium fuel it would be the V6 at 11.5 to 1 compression not the LS3 at 10.7 to 1. Interestingly, GM was able to get these engines to operate on regular fuel, however nearly every "technologically superior" German vehicle must have premium fuel!

Requiring Premium fuel is a game changer in regards to fuel prices

The only reason I would put premium in when it is not required is if I am going to be running the engine hard. Otherwise for normal driving I run 87

i thought both the L99 and LS3 required premium, isnt that in the owners manual? if i can prove to my buddy that he can run 87 safely he will be pretty happy.

Premium is NOT Required in the SS, you can safely run 87 but you won't get full performance. The manual says it is preferred for full performance.

It's not required but definitely preferred as stated above. If you keep out of the throttle and keep the load on the engine low, you shouldn't have a issue. But like the manual states as well if you heard pinging or knocking then you need to go up in octane to prevent potential engine damage.
