Spring Awakening

Hey guys so my Z has been sitting cozy and comfy since November. Car covered, fully detailed, exhaust wrapped up so nothing can get in and to help keep out cold ass air since I live 45 mins south of the Chi. She has been filled with 93 and fuel stabilizer. Since it's almost the middle of February she gets to come out soon. Should I just start her up and let her get fully warm or take it easy in a sense and break it back in on the tank. She has 6500 miles on her so recommendations would be appreciated.

Yeah, I got that, just wondering if I should let it get warm and then I can drive the wheels off of it, or get it warm, then slightly break it back in.

You should always let it get to operating temp before stomping on it. Also, the tires are likely flat spotted, especially if you didn't air them up before putting it away. Take it easy for the first few miles until that irons itself out.

I typically wait until the oil is at 100C or 212F as indicated by the four pack to drive hard, sometimes I may start geting into it as low at 70C or 158F (which isnt too bad, considering my cobalt turbo with the same oil weight would always keep its oil right aroumd at 180F / 80C)

If you are still in the break in and are choosing to follow gm's instructions then you shouldn't be driving it hard at all

I let my car warm up for 10-15 minutes before driving out of storage. My logic is to let oil find its way throughout the engine again after sitting for 5 months. I'm not sure if it really helps, but I figure it can't hurt as long as I'm going to drive it.

You know with affects of global warming, caused by supercharged V8's emissions....... spring will never come here in the northern US.

I inflated my tires to I think 40-45 been a while since November. And the tires are on carpet squares as well. I usually let her get to 180-190 before it moves so maybe I'll wait until 200 degrees, get the oil nice and warm and back through the engine. I definitely will be using a can of sea foam with 93 octane after this tank with the stabilizer runs out.

You guys are way over thinking it. Could you imagine the factory taking as long on a fresh engine before moving a car, we would never get our new builds.

Some of you are cracking me up lol If you are running the OEM oil weight then crank the car over give it time to idle down and then put it in gear and go. let the car warm up to normal opperating temp before you romp on it. Normal opperating temp at legal speed limit driving takes about 5/8 minutes to get to!
Just sitting there at idle for long periods of time does nothing but build condensation and etc in your mufflers. 5W30 circulates through your motor in the matter of maybe half a minute due to it being a 5 weight motor oil.

a car warms up faster while driving it rather than just sitting there idling.

If it makes you feel better give it maybe 2 minutes after winter storage to idle then go. The zddp/zinc protects the engine parts at start up no matter if it sits one day or 8 months. Once it cranks over the oil starts to fluctuate.

I run 15w50 and mine takes about 22 seconds to idle down after my seatbelt is on and everything else I need to do is done I go and just take it easy until the guage says its fully warmed up.

Just here for your amusement.

I bet you get more condensation in you muffler for longer periods when you wash your car than my 10 minute warm up period once a year.
