Gear change

Has anyone change the gears in the zl1?

Stock is probably good with the autos

I think a 4.30 would help the M6 out big time

Your right FAT Car could use more gear especially in a Drag Race.

I have not heard of any aftermarket gear sets for this differential at this time.

As soon as they become available I will be doing them for sure.

Ted.

+1 on the gears but I'd rather be a little taller myself. 1st just seems too low for me in my M6. I want a couple hundred drop in rpm at highway speeds. I would rather race and go through 4 gears myself instead of 6. If the gears end up too tall it's just an excuse to buy more power.

U could get 4.57 gear and u Would still b in 4th in the 1/4

28inch tall tires that we have kill gear ratios

4.30 would probably a perfect compromise

I ran those in my f-body and still ran 140 mph in the 1-4

I'm shifting just into 4th at end of 1/4

That not good
I want to b in 4th and 6500 rpm crossing traps

That's using your whole set up

You just need a little more horsepower. I'm always well into 4th at the end of the traps.

What are you trapping? Tire size, gear, RPM?

All of my data was accumulated on one night at the drag strip. I made 15 passes trying to test my engine for an upcoming road course day. Rear-end is stock ratios for manual ZL1 and tires were stock goodyears. For transmission gears you would have to look at data for 1LE Camaro because that is the transmission I have in my car. I know 4th is 1.00 in pretty much every modern GM transmission.

I made 15 passes and 13 of the passes were between 120 and 126 mph. The two that I did not make 120mph were the only 2 passes I made with no traction control at all. One, I burned rubber over 1/8 mile and only ended up at 110 mph.

And just as a side note, 14 runs were with passengers in the car and most of them were with a/c on. Didn't seem to effect my time much at all. Traction was the biggest factor. And I couldn't get much.....

Doesn't the 1LE run the same diff with 3.91 ratio? that would help a bit installed in a ZL1

The camaro Diff and ZL-1 Diff are completely different.

Installing a 1LE diff, axles and driveshaft in a ZL-1 is a Downgrade.

All components are a matched set.

Ted.

The compressor shuts off when you go WOT so the ac won't make much difference, but you should shut it off when drag racing because you're going to get water on the track from the condensor dripping
