Mobile 1 full synthetic is the only oil recommended for 2010 SS models. There are several other brands that meet the compliance standards as detailed in the owners manuals of 11-13 model SS's. Using Mobile 1 isn't a absolute necessity in those years models, neither is using a full synthetic recomended.

Use only engine oil licensed to the dexos1 specfication, or equivalent, of

recommended. See

I think his point was the dealer only uses Mobil 1 as their synthetic, and to make sure that's what they put in and not just claim they did.

I believe the OP owns a 2011 and didn't mention what brand the dealer uses. If its a Chevrolet Dealer they should know which ones is the correct one. If his dealer is using Mobile 1 they shouldn't be putting full synthetic in it..........if its a 11-13 mode Gen5 SS....period. Thats the point~ I was pointing out. I pray they aren't charging him for it either.................whether they're claiming to be putting it in his car or not~

Is this normal? Does it need full synthetic? Why does it take 8qt?

Thanks for all the input...

I was only replying to the OP's 1st post. Doctorwill I believe. I see his second post mentioning him changing his oil.....still no brand mentioned. He's driving a 2011 from what his avatar shows. Mobile 1 full synthetic nor any other full synthetic oil is recommended in 2011 through 2013 SS Camaro's................Hope he hasn't taken the advice of some goof who didn't know what oil his car uses ( recommended) and that he double checked his owners manual before buying his oil..................problematically if he has used the full synthetic in a 11-13 it eventually, according to a local Chevy dealer mechanic just yesterday prompts problems with early oil leakage at the cooler, the rear main bearing seal, and the oil pan. yikes

On a side Note: NYfan.............. I noticed your earlier post mentioning the great deal you get on stocking up Mobile 1 full synthetic for your own changes.,.....................It is not the recommended oil for 2013's...per the manual. Using the improper oil ( full synthetic no matter the brand) in a 2011-2013 automatically voids your 100,000mile power train Warranty. double yikes~ I wouldn't advertise it here on the web.

Never heard if this. Mobil 1 is a GM Dexos 1 approved oil making it fine in all 5th gens.

Here is the list:

I just was trying to say don't let them put crappy oil in your car. There are many good oils that are acceptable to put in your engine. The bulk 50 gallon drums of Pennzoil Dino oil the dealerships use are not one of them IMO.
My 2011 says Mobile 1 right on the filler cap.

Say WHAT now? I'd like to see a scan of that manual.

And why would synthetic oil cause problems vis a vis early oil leakage?

And it's Mobil 1, not Mobile 1.

Saying it's not the 'recommended' oil is a bit misleading. Mobil 1 meets the Dexos standard and will not void any warranties.

And that dealer mechanic is mistaken.
