Finally got a 9!

Went to street car takeover indy yesterday to run street fighter. Optimistic that all the numbers it has done so far says it should be able to run a 9 in the 1/4 and be competitive in street racer daily. I have not ran 1/4 prepped front side since putting the turbos on. Well first pass of qualifying it went down and clicked off a 9.62@147. I was shooting for 10lbs of boost, ended up around 11. I did not run q2 as I figured out the converter is refusing to lock up. Tried tweaking on the tune, going over the car but couldn’t come up with anything. So I lowered shift points more to try to keep it off the limiter and sent it for eliminations. I’m launching off a thumb button 2 step with foot brake and that’s not the easiest to stage on a pro tree. I was late and the 60’ suffered, went 9.75 @ 147. All in all my family and I had great time and I hit a personal goal from the beginning the season to run a 9. Highly recommend SCT to anyone thinking about going in the future!

Thanks! I just put a 3600-3800 stall circle d converter in the car. Power comes in so much faster now, I'm having trouble keeping it from spinning on street hits. These were the first clean hits and revealed the lock up issue.

Love how the thing looks "right off the showroom floor", i.e. no "look at me"/cosmetic-only add-ons...and then you go out and drop a 9.62 on people. BEAUTY!

Nice pass. You may find that it's easier on the trans to simply not lock converter at wot. I know locking the converter translates to more power making it to the rear tires but it's really hard on the trans/converter when you start making big power.

Thank you guys!
KingLT1 I was thinking about reaching out to you directly with this one. I understand what you're meaning and why you would leave the converter unlocked, in certain situations. Right now i'm thinking there's something mechanically wrong. After 1st it's just riding the converter 1500-1800rpm tcc slip the whole way down. I lowered shift points more and more and it's still getting up higher rpm than I'd like.

Ugh... LMK if you find a solution because that's what mine does. Everything looks right in the tune, but it never locks up completely at WOT since I pullied down. That's the main reason I switched to running unlocked. I don't want to toast the TCC. Mine's only slipping a couple hundred RPM.

Hopefully yours is something different. What does your line pressure read while its slipping? Does it look like it's trying to apply the TCC with high line pressure? 114 psi is stock I think... mine was holding at 200 psi with the bigger 4.13 PC pulley, but not any more with the 3.7 pulley.

Holds fine at part throttle.

Also, CONGRATS on the 9!

Thanks! I am not logging line pressure but do need to. Mine doesn’t seem like it’s locking at any time. Slip will get to a few hundred rpm’s at higher rpm’s and light load like the converter is coupling. But never gets to zero anymore since the converter change.

That's baby is starting to haul the mail, you didn't just break into the 9s, you blew into the mid 9s. Congrats on a great pass, keep it up cause I'm sure there is more left.

Thank you laynlo15! It was definitely a big feeling of relief and accomplishment. Now I'm looking south for races going on to keep the season going. It's getting to the end around here (Chicagoland).
After talking to some people more knowledgeable on this platform than I the last couple days, I think I have a handle on the lock up issue. I believe it was from my trans tuning strategy. Going about it a different way has yielded some positive results. I need to do some street hits or get to a track to see if it is going to help at wot and then I will try to put some more power in it. Turbos and fuel system definitely have more room in them.

Finally got to test the converter lock up at wot. It worked! Adjusting the Desired Pressure and Apply Ramp tables and not messing with the max pressure tables, nor reg and offset tables got the converter working again. You can see mine stock calibration did not use those tables stock. I tried using them instead of the stock setup and the car did not like it. Switching back and adjusting the other tables had great results.

Nice! Thanks for the follow up. Still running mine unlocked until i can get to the track at least once, then maybe I'll mess with mine a bit more.
