14 SS radio.
So I don't have all the features on my radio like others. Is there a way to update my radio to get other features?

Only way is to change out your Radio for one that has the features you want.

I'm guessing you don't have navigation. If that is the case, you would have to have a whole new Mylink installed with navigation. That will probably cost you north of $2000. You could go aftermarket but it will probably be pretty close in cost plus you would need to find an installer. Other than nav and no-nav, there are no other options.

Lol @people still using car nav · I could never justify a 2k or 4k increase just for nav · With the advent of the smartphone car nav was killed in mid 2000's·

Assuming your model of Camaro comes with Mylink, it's only $795 (MSRP) more to get NAV.
I agree that with my Note 2 being 5.5" and always having updated maps via Google Maps, car NAV isn't nearly as important as it was before. I still splurged and went with the NAV option on the 2SS (that I'll hopefully be picking up tomorrow).

I ordered mine with navigation, I think it was an $1800 option. I admit it's expensive compared to a smart phone or a window mounted Garmin, but I don't have to worry about interruptions with cellular service, having my smart phone in nav mode for the entire trip or pulling a dedicated Garmin off the windshield. It has a nice big screen and when it "speaks directions" it mutes the stereo and uses the car speakers and since it's part of the whole Mylink system, each upcoming move is displayed in the HUD as well. I think it's a nice convenience, but I understand what you're saying.

I don't use nav but I'd just like to have more. I see you can update the software so I didn't know if there was something out there I can plug into the USB and get more outta my radio.
Yes it is a MyLink.

As for the "app feature" - do you mean weather, gas prices, movie times, etc? These features are in EVERY MyLink and require an active OnStar subscription to use these apps. If they do not appear on your Menu, then you may have removed pages or altered your Apps on the screen. This can be undone or modified in the CONFIG menu. The MyLink software updates you're referring to are not upgrades or improvements to the MyLink unit, they're simply there to update all similar units as required over time. The USB comment leads me to believe that you simply do not know how to use Pandora, Bluetooth Music, or other synced radio features with your phone/memory device. Can you please elaborate on what you know about, or do not know about? |

When I use maps on my iphone through Bluetooth or the sync cable it also mutes the radio and plays the directions through the speakers just like a factory installed mylink nav

I will take a built-in navigation system over a phone based one any day. More integrated into the audio system, shows turn by turn not only on a 7" screen but also in the HUD display. Also, way more options on how to navigate and more flexibility with selecting POI's than phone based systems. Also, built-in nav does not require a cell signal to work, and does not eat into your phone's data plan usage.
More and more restrictions will be placed on how cell phones are used in a car, with texting already banned in most states, it's just a matter of time until phone navigation is deemed to distractive and will be regulated just like texting and not using your phone hands free. |
