Rear Back up Camera guides 14'-15'
How is it going everyone?
I just had a question that I haven't seen an answer for and that is...The guides that are on the back up camera on the 2015's will it or could it be a software update for the 2014's? I have a 2014 1LE and am still new to such a wide car (07' Cobalt was my last one). I just thought it'd be an easy upgrade to get them. Let me know what you guys think. |

They were also on older YMs. My 2012 has them.

I am interested in if they can be updated as well. I love the back up camaera, but my Dad has a Charger that has the guides on it and it is much easier to use and understand the distances when backing into spaces.
I prefer to back in when I can so as to not drag the nose of the car on the parking stops or curbs. Any info on updates or ways to upgrade the 14's would be appreciated. |

Yours is in your rear view mirror. 2013s and 2014s are in the Mylink screen. The two systems are made by different companies and the company that programs Mylink (Panasonic) for some legal reason was not allowed to use guidelines. Maybe 2015s have a different company programming them.

Soapbox commentary, take it for what it's worth...
I mean no disrespect, but I'm still shocked that vehicles come with backup cameras. Semi truck drivers and box truck drivers generally don't have them, not that they shouldn't, but it means driving skill can be developed to the point where a skilled driver can back a 36' trailer around a corner and into a loading dock, without killing anyone or taking paint off. Backing a Camaro into a tight spot should theoretically be easier (and it is). Here we are asking if we can get lines for our backup cameras, to help us back up. Driving a Camaro for the first time is scary, I know, it's big and hard to see out of and probably unlike anything you've ever driven before. I see that as a challenge. Backup cams and lines and all that are great, and if people want them, they should have them. Lines or not, I hope you guys are practicing and developing skill so that you don't have to use them; so they just exist as a guide. I don't like the idea of staring forward at a screen while traveling in reverse. There's more out there to see, and there's going to be a time when you have to back an awkward vehicle into a tight space and you won't have to use a backup camera. The skills you develop apply to any vehicle, not just a Camaro. I'll hop off the soapbox now, if anyone was listening. YMMV, and good luck! (I'll be standing WAAAY over here while y'all backup) |

I have also backed up my share of small to large Uhaul trucks from my multitude of moves with out cameras. |

Because of the reduced visibility in our Gen5 Camaros, backup cameras are very helpful in almost all cases. These cameras take in a large viewing area and are not a hazard because we are backing up without looking back.

I was at Chevy having an oil change done last week (Silverado, not the Camaro) and I sat in a 2015 in the showroom. I noticed the camera guide lines and wished my '14 had them (lines and warning triangle).
Now that I think of it, the '15 Mylink home screen also had a 'movie' icon. I forgot to check & see if my '14 had that also (remember pictures, but not movies / film reel).

Personal preference. I can back up just fine and have done it for years, but my wife has a harder time seeing out of the car in general with the blindspots and the high rear deck. I am not the only driver in my case. Primary, yes, but not the only one. |

Odd, I retrofitted a MyLink system into my 2011 SS and it had the guidelines for the BUC My 2014 SS with the factory installed MyLink does not have them.
