Test drove SS

I bought my wife a 2012 2LT/RS last year. She did not want a manual transmission. When it had about 800 miles on it, I switched out the stock mufflers with Magnaflow axle back exhaust and added a full K&N intake. I rarely drive it but yesterday I decided to take it to the dealer and test drive a 2013 SS with the possibility of trading up. I mashed on the throttle of her car all the way to the dealer so I would be able to make a comparison with the SS. We test drove the SS, again an automatic, for about 15-20 miles and it was way cool, but it was not the huge difference I was expecting. I could feel the low RPM torque from the standing start and it was certainly faster, but not enough that I had to have it (not my car anyway). The same salesman who sold us the 2LT said to wait until they get a ZL1 in stock and he will email me. Just wanted your thoughts on this, and also, what could an axle back exhaust and intake possibly add to the v6 for power?

Im glad you posted this.... Im going to test out an ss in the future to see the difference aswell...

Axle back wont add anything to my knowledge, but the cold air intake can add 15-25 hp.

Probably had 87 octane in the tank running less horsepower. All dealers are guilty of it.

I started with a '12 V6 MT (3 clutches in 2800 miles), got an '12 SS Auto, and now have a '13 SS with a short throw - big difference. At about 3000 miles, fuse pull and a CAI intake, that L99 really woke up. I've got about 700 miles on the new one so I'm still breaking it in, but so far, I can feel the difference in the torque.

I have driven both an SS and LT model for hundreds of miles each. The SS is a completely different car, and anyone who says different it lying to themselves. That doesn’t make the V6 a bad car.

Without the fuse pull I actually hated the automatic 2SS when I traded up. With the fuse pull and the Range full time V8 plugged into the OBD port, the 2SS is a different animal.

they will tell you anything, a salesman at a k&n tent told me their oil filters add horsepower too...

This. It needs a fuse pull after adding 93, and then you will see a difference.

autos have 400hp and manuals have 426. I have a 2010 SSRS manual and its a beast compared to a V6. Do a fuse pull cause all these dealers put 87 in the tank. It will make a defference in the feeling
