Governor Chris wants your money. Remember during the Gubornatorial elections when she said how solvent the state was? How time (and apparently money) flies. This state will tax your facial hair growth if they thought they could.

This probably wont go anywhere guys. No matter how many sigs we get. I work with LEOs occasionally and some have cameras that are being mounted on top of patrol cars that read your license plate and compare with hotlist of stolen vehicles as they pass by. They are expending a lot of money on these tools and its pretty cool to watch in action. But, with that kind of money invested they probably will not remove the front plate requirement.

It's nice that they have the money to invest in finding more ways to do their jobs automatically rather than with their eyes (ever see a cop who ISN'T surfing the web on their computer when they're supposed to be driving?)

I'm sure the tech is neat, but the money would be better spent on their budget deficit.....not that that's where it'll go.

Good point though.

I have had my car a year and recently drove thru a small town and got pulled over twice. Once guy let me go but the other gave me a ticket for no front plate and doing 26 mph over the speed limit. :( I haven't had a ticket in over 12 yrs. Anyway, I just ordered the retractable license plate holder. I live in TX and it seems like the small towns are strict about the front plate.

I've still heard nothing up here about what Gregoire's decision has been, but as mike pointed out, they're after the money and have a new camera system that's "designed to keep us safe" (uh huh)

But it COULD rely on rear plates just as well. Guess we'll see.

just had my windows tinted, and read the law before i went in just to make sure, thats a load of crap. *edited because I attached the actual law*

The 24% would be if your windows are already tinted and you apply more tint to them, and at that, you would be talking about 24% of the light passing through the glass, so your looking at an even darker tint than the legal 35%.

(a) The maximum level of film sunscreening material to be
applied to any window, except the windshield, shall have a total
reflectance of thirty-five percent or less, plus or minus three
percent, and a light transmission of thirty-five percent or more,
plus or minus three percent, when measured against clear glass
resulting in a minimum of twenty-four percent light transmission on
AS-2 glazing where the vehicle is equipped with outside rearview
mirrors on both the right and left.
Installation of more than a
single sheet of film sunscreening material to any window is
prohibited. The same maximum levels of film sunscreen material may
be applied to windows to the immediate right and left of the driver
on limousines and passenger buses used to transport persons for
compensation and vehicles identified by the manufacturer as multi-
use, multipurpose, or other similar designation. All windows to
the rear of the driver on such vehicles may have film sunscreening
material applied that has less than thirty-five percent light
transmittance, if the light reflectance is thirty-five percent or
less and the vehicle is equipped with outside rearview mirrors on
both the right and left. A person or business tinting windows for
profit who tints windows within restricted areas of the glazing
system shall supply a sticker to be affixed to the driver's door
post, in the area adjacent to the manufacturer's identification
tag. Installation of this sticker certifies that the glazing
application meets this chapter's standards for light transmission,
reflectance, and placement requirements. Stickers must be no
smaller than three-quarters of an inch by one and one-half inches,
and no larger than two inches by two and one-half inches. The
stickers must be of sufficient quality to endure exposure to harsh
climate conditions. The business name and state tax identification
number of the installer must be clearly visible on the sticker.

to keep this post on-topic... I have been pulled over a couple times now, neither of them mentioned anything about me not having a front plate.

Even if you did, it wold not be legal in WA State.

(i) Attached conspicuously at the front and rear of each vehicle if two license plates have been issued;

Basically it has to be attatched to the front of the car. Not inside your car, such as inside the windshield. Cops still hand out tickets for that. Plus it also is a safety issue if you were ever in a accident. Even attached to the visor, I would not want to be an a accident and have it dislodge from the visor and coming at my head.

I would argue that we have too many cops that get involved in too much. Society in general thinks that the police are there to protect them. This is not the case. They are there after the fact. Personally I get upset seeing the cops in my neighborhood with speed traps. I don't think they should be doing that at all. And I also fully disagree with any automatic systems such as plate readers, red light cameras, speed cameras, etc...I believe that this work has to be done manually and that we as the people are better off when it is done manually. I could go on and on about this in great detail but this wouldn't be the place.

Haven't had a front plate from the day I bought it. Dealer I bought it at only put them on if the customer requests it specifically. Only had one cop in Iowa say anything about it. A plate will never go on the front. It's a work of art and I will not ruin it.

Never had the front plate on either of my Camaros either. Never had any issues with cops. I keep the extra plate in the cargo net in my trunk, but I'm never attaching it. :P

I even drive around with green DRLs and cops don't bug me for that OR the plate. I wouldn't put the plate on the dash and have it scratch up my shit, or pose a danger were I ever to get into an accident. That shit could kill you if it were flying around loose inside the car. :\
