Picking up my ZL1 1LE next week.. but...

I can't believe the time has come to get my 1LE, it will be arriving at my local dealer next week! I went with black, it's a tradition for any sports car I get.

This leads me to the main reason I created this thread, paint protection. At first, I was debating not adding any sort of paint protection. However, I came to the realization of how insane that would be with a 72k car. Sorry for the click bait btw, had to get your attention .

For my 5th Gen ZL1 I did a 3m clear bra on the entire front end (hood, fenders, and pillars). That alone was a right around 2k.

Price isn't too much of an issue, but I wouldn't want to spend more than 2k. Any ideas or suggestions?

I did Expel on the front fascia and hood. I wish I had done the whole car and will on my next ZL1.

Thanks for the reply Ominous, Expel from what I know is very similar to the 3m clear bra right?

Also just curious how much did you end up spending?

Hi and Congratulations

Have a 2017 Black ZL1 and whatever you do make sure the dealer does not wash it or detail it; paint is very prone to scratching ...

I had front area, bumper, and runners and behind wheel strike areas covered with expel film but the entire paint was corrected and treated with feynlab self-heal plus self-healing protection. It's really cool, the scratches self heal with heat gun or with time or when car paint is warmed up by sun/heat... They literally disappear in front of your eyes. It was $3.5k total but now I don't have to worry about swirl marks etc...

Check it out at https://www.feynlab.com

Considered Ceramic-like coatings but my detailer said even though harder than the GM paint, they can scratch as well and those don't have self-healing properties (unlike the film)...

If you race, then you may want to wrap entire front of car (I skipped hood and of course it has gotten a couple of knick from stone chips which even the thick self-heal plus can't prevent).

Are you serious, that's insane it's been sitting there for over a month!?

I know because my sales rep called me the other day, my car should be leaving the factory soon via train. My dealer is in LA county.

A few 1LE's have already been delivered, there was a hold up on parts a few weeks back. The transport should be the easy part...

Updated: I've been quoted on for $5500 for Xpel Ultimate, full body install. Does that seem like a fair price?

I personally think you should just wrap the Hood, Bumper, Fenders, and side mirrors. Throw some ZL1 Addons rock guards all around and you're set. Should only run you about 2k for all of that and will cover you for 99% of all road damage you will get.

Go ahead and spend a Saturday applying a Ceramic coating on the entire car when you get a chance also, well worth the time and relatively cheap and easy if you do it yourself, no more than $200 in supplies, cheers! ^_^

EDIT: Dont forget to Xpel your door cups too! They will get battered on a black car!

Are they delivering ZL1 1LEs by train now?

That is in the range for a full wrap. The key is the quality of the installer of course. I'd rather pay $5,500 for perfection than $4,500 for "ok".

You'll be glad you did this. I did an entire race wrap on my Z/28 and planning to do the same on my ZL1 1LE.

Good luck.

By the way, you'll only want to use Ultimate on the gloss areas. The satin areas should use Stealth.

I did the ceramic coat on body and wheels, with clear bra on nose, and rockers.
$3800

My 1LE should be coming late next month, from what I understand the hood is already factory wrapped satin black. I was definitely doing Xpel on the front end. Someone above suggested doing the Xpel Stealth on the hood. If the hood is wrapped satin black, wouldn't it be more cost effective to just rewrap it if there were nicks in the wrap? I also plan to do xpel on the rockers and maybe the rear lower quarter panel, with cermaic coating on the rest.
