One of my cop friends told me a story: he pulled over a couple for speeding, asked why the driver (male) was speeding. The male said his wife (the passenger) was pregnant and they were going to the hospital. The officer said that was fine (even though he knew the truth) and followed them to the hospital to "make sure everything went alright". When they got to the hospital, he escorted them in and made sure they got a room right away. Finally the male admitted to lying. The officer didn't write him up, figured the hospital bill would be enough............

A cop once gave me my best excuse.........

I am originally from the UK and used to do a lot of Rallying back in the 80s and 90s. Forest Rally cars are all street legal as they needed to use the public highway to get between stages.

One night I was out giving my Mark 1 Escort Mexico rally car (google it, Mk 1 Escorts were the staple of European rallying for many years!!) a bit of a shakedown before an event.

I was doing 85mph in an area posted as a 30mph but it was a quiet country road in the middle of the night with no-one else for miles around. I got to a small hump back bridge that was a great test to make sure the dampers are all in good shape, hit the bridge and got about 2 feet of air under the tires. As I am in mid air I see a Traffic Car coming the other way (UK equivalent of a State Trooper)

Of course he turns on his lights and sirens, executes a U turn and chases me down.

I pull over and am very polite and respectful - let's be honest I was doing over 80mph in the air on a posted 30mph piece of road, so there is not much point arguing :-)

It quickly becomes clear that the Cop is a gearhead who loves rallying, so the conversation quickly gets away from my "indiscretion" to talking about the car.

After about 15 minutes, he gave me the best excuse for speeding I have ever heard: "Well sir I am going to let you go now. I am a Traffic Officer which means my responsibility extends to offenses on the public highway. As you were in the air when I saw you then it would be the responsibility of the Civil Aviation Authority to pursue charges against you. Have a good evening Sir."

And with that he jumped into his car laughing and drove off into the night.

I don't care what country you live in, that would not happen in 2017 :-) :-)

I'd write you a ticket just for being someone who still uses cd's.


my last one was "I literally just moved here, got my new license plates and i'm on my way to autozone to get new plastic push-in screw screw clips because in PA we dont require a front and the old ones literally disintegrated when i tried screwing into them from dry rot"

I really was doing all that and he let me go because he couldn't even look the plates up because they weren't in any systems yet.

Profiled for driving a 4th gen....an odd sight in irvine.

Not my story but it makes me laugh, goes something like this:
Middle aged gentleman is out in his new Camaro, feeling young, punches the throttle and hits 80 just as he passes a cop. Cop pulls out behind him and the guy floors it more, and then realizes it's useless to try and pulls over. Cop comes to the window and says "you should have pulled over right away, but it's the end of my shift, and if you can come up with a good excuse, I'll let you off." So the guy thinks quick and says, " well, my wife ran away with a cop two weeks ago, and I thought you were trying to bring her back." Cop says, " have a nice day, sir!"

“Being Stupid” Buddy of mine were at the Fbody Gathering 2 in Atlanta GA back in 1998 picture a Sport Gold Metallic Z/28 and a Black WS6 Trans Am sitting at a traffic light in the turn lane. Across the street is the Waffle House what we did not notice was the cop car sitting in the parking lot and what else we did not know is he was already calling in for backup. Well seeing these two young guys with V8 engines see a green light my buddy takes off and goes sideways, and I take off and go sideways next thing you know we see the light turn on behind me. We both pull over in our hotel parking lot. Well next thing we know 3 more squad cars show up. The office got out and asked me what I was doing I said “being stupid officer” he looked at me and proceeded to my friends car to ask him and he responded “being stupid” fast forward a good 20-25 minutes later (well it could have been quicker but it felt that long).

My buddy pulls away, the office comes back and said it’s a good thing you two boys stopped because it would not be me chasing you it would be him, I look up and see the police chopper overhead. He tells me you stopped that is very rare since the interstate if a block away, you have a fast car go ahead and park it go into your hotel and have a good night. No ticket, nothing except the crowd of 30+ people outside the hotel watching us.

I told the cop I just finished the break in of my car and wanted to see what it would do. It must have worked since I got away with just a stern lecture instead of jail.

Me: Thanks.
Passenger: I told him to slow down, but doesn't she sound nice? (my brother in-law)
Officer: Yes she does, just be careful and slow down.
Me: Yes maam, smile
