Adjusted for inflation I wonder how those prices compare to today. A Gen 6 RS 2LT V6 will be about 30K.

I was 16 when I bought my 2LT/RS brand new on June 2010. Had a decent job that I held for 7 years total and never missed a payment. A soul crushing payment of $528 a month. Highly do not recommend! But I was young, and I had no other expenses. But I do see your point.

$5100 in 1977 translates to $20k today.

I personally don't. I wasn't even born when you bought your 77. I didn't know a single person as a teenager who bought their own brand new car, of any type. Few even owned a car, mostly just borrowing from Mom & Dad.

As for your prices, adjusted for inflation ...

5,100 in 1977 = 20,000
12,000 in 1981 = 31,500
7,700 in 78 = 28,200

Now, there aren't too many teenagers earning enough these days to buy a 30ish thousand dollar car. Even 20 grand would be a pipe dream for most anymore. Gotta save for college/university & hope you don't get crushed by debt upon graduation.

I remember before the great production plant migration, high school grads who went to work at plants immediately upon graduation buying new cars...

being 24 and a international student with no SSN.. i cant have any kind of credit here.. I literally beg for a camaro... even being an art director of an indy studio back in Colombia and financially able to buy a 1SS easly I had to get a 4 gen with low milage and mod the heck out of it... I actually got tired of waiting for a chance to get a camaro and a good oportunity came back in colombia and I bought a 2015 50th aniversary GT last one of 13 in colombia... and only one of 60 in latin America

Its not the 70s anymore get over it. Almost any teen on the net that says "I worked for this car!", translates into I make $8 an hour and daddy bought me this car.

Woaw.wait a second.you bought +20k car while you were 16???even if you make enough money how can you buy a car and drive it home if you don't have a driving licence?im 17 and im still driving my cousin's old genesis coupe sneaking at night.this seems a bit weird and maybe impossible in my opinion.

You can get a license at 16 in some states, Google is your friend. Didn't you say you are 20 in another thread?

I got my license on my 16th birthday. Thought that was typical. Farm communities give them out at 14-15 I believe, with restrictions.
