5th gen compared to 6th gen

I have owned my 2012 Camaro V6A6 since new as my daily driver and am completely happy with it, however the upcoming demise of the Camaro has me considering moving up to a new 6th gen. I'm sure some of you guys have previously owned a 5th gen and now drive a 6th gen. What are the differences between the 2? Which do you like as a daily driver?

I loved my 5th gen SS but I love my 6th even more, it’s the same car just one step better, just like buying the next version of your favourite video game or cell phone!

The only negative thing I can say for a daily driver is that the 6th gen is quite a bit smaller, so cabin space is smaller inside and doesn't feel as spacious as the 5th gen. A little bit more annoying to get into, but it also fits in garages and parking spaces better since it's footprint is smaller.

Everything else is significantly improved from the 5th gen. Interior is WAY better, driving characteristics are way better, power is way better (at least for v8s).

Overall it's definitely worth upgrading. It's simply a better car.

OMG- night and day difference! I had a 2010 RS V6 that I did every bolt on upgrade/fix that Chevy missed that first year with suspension etc.. Even put an IPF supercharger on when it became obvious their claimed V6 output wasn't really up to the task of pushing that big car around. It was putting down more HP to the back wheels than a stock 5th gen V8 after that.
In '17 since it had been 50yrs since inception, I test drove a SS. Had to get one despite having put so much $ into the 5th gen and it only had like 24K miles on it. It is that much better - period.
I told all my 5th gen friends don't test drive a 6th, unless you want to see how much better a Camaro can be.
If it is financially possible, do not let this opportunity pass you by. It is a decision you will not regret!

I have put 56k miles on my 21 v6 manual and love it. Bilstein dampers and non run flat summer tires made it better. Resonator delete , x pipe , mbrp axel back made it sound awesome.

I had a 5th gen SS/RS.

In addition to what's already been mentioned:

- The 6th gen is a far superior platform -- the chassis is among the best in the world.
- The interior is much nicer in the 6th gen.

I had a 2010 2SS for 13 years. It was a very good car! The handling, the brakes, the V8 torque!

But, it had its limitations. The visibility was a challenge in the city. The speedometer dial was illegible due to its small size and fat needle. I resorted to the digital speedo at all times. There was no touchscreen and no Apple CarPlay. The bluetooth interface was a PITA. It had no backup camera, so I had to install one.

Now I have 2023 ZL1. I know, it's a much more powerful car and has a 10 speed transmission, 6 piston front brakes, and active suspension, so no comparison in performance.

As for driver interface, it's a huge improvement, starting with the visibility looking forward, the larger side mirrors, the video rear view mirror (in addition to backup camera), the Apple CarPlay. The instruments are more visible and I finally have heads up display.

What's not to like in Gen6? Well, there wasn't much storage space in the Gen5, but there's even less in Gen6. Tiny glovebox, tiny console box, no door pockets. Hell, even the cupholders are undersized. I hate the electric parking brake. And there's no built in garage door opener in any trim level! You's supposed to use your own app, but it's not necessarily visible on the touch screen, depending what you're doing, so I'm back to the remote on the visor, old school. The wireless phone charger seems to have bee designed before the car, because even my old iPhone X is way too big for it.

I expect if you are going from V6 to V6, you will get a much faster car because of its lower weight, and ten speed automatic. Just don't get conned into a 4 cylinder, sounds like a mail truck.

I had a 2010 RS V6 that was highly modified in terms of looks and engine performance. Also had some suspension work done and I really loved that car.

Then I bought a 2016 Camaro SS. Wow what a jump, not only in power, but the stock handling was/is better than even my modified 5th gen.

The only "negative" I can see about the two compared is that the 6th gen has a bit less room on the inside, but that's to be expected as the car is just smaller (and lighter) than the 5th gen. It's the right sized Camaro if you ask me.

Everything else is fantastic. A complete joy to drive.

I also decided to get a Gen6 after the announcement that the Camaro was going away. I sold my 2015 1SS AT last year and started kicking myself in the teeth afterwards once I learned the news. I began searching, patiently, and finally got the Camaro I always wanted: 2018 2SS 1LE in Red Hot. Everything that has been said above is 100% accurate regarding space and visibility, but OOOH BOY is this 1LE a blast to drive!!!!

Find you one while you can because I have a feeling 2SSs, 1LEs, and ZL1s are going to get scarce

2015 2LS to 2023 2LT here..

Gen 5 has a bigger trunk, better visibility, more storage and a 5 star safety rating vs. 4 star with Gen 6 (not sure that is comparing apples to apples since testing changes)

Gen 6 handles a lot better, has a more refined & dampened suspension, the A10 transmission is light years ahead, nicer interior and electronics, modern led lights and quieter cabin.

The Gen 6 V6 is much faster thanks to the improved automatic transmission and weight reduction. The sport mode makes a noticeable difference.

The 24 models are getting big price increase. Scoop up a 23 while the selection is still decent.
