What else will they try and sell me?

Hello - I'll be picking up a new Camaro in the next couple of weeks. Its been a while since I've bought a new car, just wanted to know ahead of time what else the salesman or finance guy will try to sell me. I want to just sign and drive...but I don't think it will work that way...

Thanks in advance

Oh, they'll try to sell you paint protection; extended warranty; maybe some dealer upgrades... some insurance... maybe LoJack... OnStar cell phone minutes... there will be a laundry list. Get ready!

Ask to see the spare tire.
If they go for the trunk just start laughing and say "not the battery".

When they look at you funny walk away and find someone else.

That's not always the case. The spare tire is an option and I've seen quite a few cars with it. They could open the trunk and actually show you a spare tire.

The finance manager is the one to fear. Better read this thread. Be prepared to say "no" a lot.

The salesman isn't the one that tries to sell you all the extra stuff.

I actually never got asked anything by anyone but I did sign the papers around 7:45 when they closed at 8. May have had something to do with it.

To my amazement they didn't push any extras on me with the camaro. Must have realized when I turned it all down with my trick 2 yrs prior. I was in the finance mgrs office less than 10 min. Now our van on the other hand in January it was like an hour grrr

Congrats on your new camaro!! (c: Your closing on your sale will take a couple of hours typically, they are obligated to go over the car with you and demonstrate its features, set up your Onstar & XM etc. When you go to see the Finance people, you will be offered a number of things from extended warranty, paint protection, finance insurance ( this can make some sense to buy depending on your down payment ) and a number of other products or services the dealer has available. Most are very profitable for the dealer but are usually not a good value to you. there is nothing that they offer that you have to buy, you can JUST SAY NO !! I hope it goes well for you, not all dealers use hard sell tactics so I hope your isn't one of them

don't forget the $149 nitrogen tire fill. The stuff works, but you will still need to add air, and only YOUR dealer will honor the "free fill". therefore, a wast of mony. Mine called yesterday, trying to get me to trade in my 10 for a 12. Actually, the deal was OK, and my payments would have gone down by $15/month with a no cash swap. but the $149 nitro tire fill was not negotiable. I kept mine.

That's not always true. Some creditors have conditional approvals for second chance finance deals that do require GAP Insurance or Credit Life. Of course, most of those deals aren't on new Camaros either, so....

Creditors don't put these type of conditions on approval, the dealer does.
