Anyone go out of state for their ZL1?

Hi All,

Just looking to hear about your experiences if you had to go out of state to find your ZL1....where are you from, how far did you go, why did you go out of your state (price? was it the only one you could find in the color you liked?) , how'd you get the car back....etc

I'm down to a few cars and am now considering going out of state to expand my search. Pretty much down to a ZL1, M3, CTS-V (Id like the wagon), maybe waiting to see the ATS-Vs, and if all the planets were to align a used GT-R. Im thinking a ZL1 actually might be the cheapest of the group it purchased new unless I could find a 2013 CTS-V.

When I was looking last fall, no one had an allocation for a ZL1. I wanted an IOM vert so I needed to order it. I found one in RI, I live in CT, after I ordered it the flood gates seemed to open, after the new year everyone had them coming in. I had a buddy drive me up in his ZL1 to pick mine up in March. What a great day cruizing down to the shore for lunch then back home.

How did you come around to find the RI dealer that had a spot for you to fill? Just call around? I actually live in MA so not too far and one of the ZL1s I've seen was in RI. Im also thinking Im just going to wait through the winter to bring a new car home, I guess the only downside to waiting would be that cheaper 2013s would be mostly gone.

How'd it get to you? Delivery or drive to pick it up.

Yes called around. Paul Masse, I can get you the salesman's name if that's where you saw it, he worked very hard to get me my car, his allocation was actually for a coupe, they got Chevy to change it to a vert.

I live right outside Nashville TN. But I went to North Carolina to get my car. Dale Earnhardt Chevy in Hickory NC had an allotment for one car. And they didn't want any market adjustment added on top of the price. All the dealers in Nashville wanted 5K to 10K as a deposit and that 5-10K would added on top of MSRP. And they couldn't even promise that they could get a car. This was winter of 2012. So I found a dealer who wasn't greedy in North Carolina and my car was built in April 2012 and I was there 5 days after it arrived. My daughter and I made a road trip out of it. We cruised through the Blue Ridge Parkway in the Smokey Mtns on the way back and spent the night in Gatlinburg before coming back to Nashville. So I had a 500 mile start on the break-in on the 2nd day I owned it.

Awesome first drive thru the mountains.

Didnt even think of making a small road trip out of it. How did buying out of state work for you guys for registering the car? I assume its different state to state, but itd be nice to hear some experiences for those that drove their cars back.

They had a runner register it for me in CT, so I drove home with my plates on. They also charged only sticker price.
