Wow, of course we can't say its "confirmed"...but still cool. I had hoped the V6 would have more torque though...oh wells.

Looks pretty good to me.

I wonder how both motors will do against the mustang. V6s should be very close and the SS should definitely be faster. GM should put 3.73 gears in from the factory and really kill it.

Ah you beat me to it. This seems unlikely to me though. The rumor is that the 2012 V6 is going to push near 330hp...seems hard to believe that they would put out a car in 2016 with the same amount, although the car will be lighter which will mean increased performance. I expected a V6 in the high 300s.

They also have the mpg rating for the V6 at 20/30...that won't be high enough for CAFE standards. Pretty sure it has to be 35mpg by then.

So the V6 specs for the ATS 3.6 is exactly inline to what was announced earlier with the 2012 V6 pushing out around 330hp. If thats the case then the ATS-V would be the new SS model? 470hp? That would be fricken sweet!

P.S. 8-speed automatic for the ATS 3.6 V6? o.0

I'm sure you meant the rumor is the '2012' will push near 330...But the article is for the 2014 cadillac ATS...which will hit dealers in 2013, so that could mean the 2013 or 2014 Camaros will get the new engines as well.

Who knows what will happen in 2016, assuming GM DOES wait that long for the next generation Camaro. As much as I hate to say it, if the weight is low enough they may just go for a powerful turbo'd 4 in the base car, skip the V6, and offer a V8......but man I think a 330+ HP V6 with gearing options in a lighter weight V6 would be so sweet!

this is on the alpha platform so smaller and that 270hp 4 should scoot pretty well with the reduced weight verses the camaro. still rather have the 6 or 8 obviously but makes ya think for sure!

Yes I meant the 2012. Honestly (and I know most people don't like to admit this) but I think the most likely thing is that the base will be a turbo 4. The super sport will be a twin turbo V6 and then the high performance model (competitor to the GT500) would be a V8.

This is speculation, disguised as fact. Nobody at GM knows what those engines will put out yet. Sure, they've got a rough estimate but those cars are 3 years away. The Camaro SS didn't get its final hp, torque, and fuel economy numbers until a few months before it went into full production (initial numbers were announced in August 2008, final numbers were in January 2009)

CAFE is an average, not a mandatory number for every single car. That said, don't expect power numbers to keep climbing. Odds are, manufacturers in the not-so-distant future will setup their engines more for fuel economy instead of powe, so a naturally aspiriated V6 probably won't be cranking hp in the high 300 range any time soon, at least in large volume sedans. Low volume sports cars, like the Nissan 370Z (or perhaps 380Z by then?) sure. That doesn't mean they'll become aenemic, but be prepared to see a lot more 280 hp 3.4L V6's than 380 hp 3.7's.
